These five things will change your game in any room.

Shared: From your friends TechAutoCareers.com® the online resource for the Automotive Sales Consultant

I woke up this morning thinking about my readers and came up with five things you need right now to optimize your leadership. (Well, need and hopefully want, because of course it's always up to you!) Here we go. Have a great week!

You need a break. I see a theme lately, and it's bigger than ever. I can't tell if I'm projecting or if we're all just moving faster and faster (I'm thinking it's a bit of both). You need a break. Even if that break is 10 minutes between your meetings. A pause in your conversation. Or a week on a beach. Take a breather. Schedule your meetings for 50 minutes instead of 60 and stick to it. Build in some white space on your calendar (an hour is great, go for a day). Plan that vacation. Breathe.

You need good food, good water, and good sleep. This will only fuel you and make your brain and body work better for you so you can lead like an even bigger rock star. Pre-pack your breakfast, bring your lunch with you, carry your water bottle, sleep with intention. Do whatever you need to do to make sure you are getting nourished, my friend.

You need to listen better than ever. If you're moving fast and you have lots of stuff going on and you're...busy (ack! You're still using that word? Gasp!), you need to listen better than ever. To that voice inside you, to your employee, to your spouse, to your child, to your body. Listen. Just listen, and honor each of them. If you're present, eating well, and listening, you'll know exactly what you need to do next.

You need to walk into any room and be an asset. The minute you've walked in, you're having an impact. Your presence IS your impact. Show up. Notice what happens when you walk in. What's the impact? Does the room open up and feel better? Or does it "shut down" and leave people feeling careful? Notice your impact, do a reboot, intend your presence, and be a contribution to these people--even if that means you say not a word.

You need to be present. Present to yourself, present to the person you're in conversation with, present to the reality of your life and organization and culture. Present to why you speak up in a room (are you being in service of others or just trying to look brilliant?). Present. That's it. We take this word, and the spirit of it, for granted. It can change the game.
