I know there are various schools of thought on this subject. Since training does enhance one's resume, some dealers feel that it should be performed on the employee's own time as it also makes the employee more valuable in their specialized field. Other dealers pay (especially technicians) for the OEM mandated training as the factory requires training to be up to par for the dealership to be in compliance and eligible to participate in certain programs and get paid for warranty claims.
I am interested to hear how the franchised dealers out there treat the training in regards to compensation to employees.

All of the dealerships I have worked for paid their Service Advisors and technicians for training. There is usually a set dollar amount that is paid to these employees for each day they are in training,
Thanks for the reply, Rob. I have worked for 3 dealerships in my 30+ years who all had a training pay plan as we.. The dealer I am currently working for refuses to pay advisors and techs and states that all the dealers he speaks with are not paying for training. Pretty much the purpose of my discussion was to get some feedback. We do not belong to a 20 group or an association so he gets his info at that auctions... (I will not be working for him much longer). Thanks again!

I'll check on the techs and parts and service advisors but when we send my guys in the Digital Dept. for training they are paid. I will reference the line about "Since training does enhance one's resume, some dealers feel that it should be performed on the employee's own time ". One of the owners here resisted having a staff page for the longest time because he felt that other dealers would steal his employees by shopping for them on the said staff page.
Thanks so much AJ for responding. I love this site for networking and sharing business principles with peers. Thanks for the friend add as well. Look forward to speaking with you more going forward.
Nancy
