Hey all you PROS.....when I say PROS....Ever sinced I joined, I have learned a lot in a short time.  My question is.  Anyone getting into and are already in the auto sales business already knows that we put in serious hours.  I am the only sales person at my dealership that doesnt have a day off.  I work six days, we close Sunday.  I do Monday-9am to 9pm, Tuesday 12pm to 9pm, Wednesday 9am to 2pm, Thursday 9am to 9pm, Friday 12pm to 7pm, Saturday 9am to 6pm.

I am constantly being called into work early on my late days.  My boss got on me the other day cause I came in at noon on Friday.  Keep in mind, I have been doing this schedule since I started, Its never changed.  Pretty much, they want me there from open to close everyday.  I can't tell you how many Wednesdays, I leave at 2pm, they have called me back to work.

I feel so burnt out.  Everyone has a day off during the week except for me.  If you add the hours Im doing, Im making like $5.00 an hour.  I am the Internet Sales Manager.  They claimed,if Im not there then no one is calling the customers to work on the leads......I dont mind putting in the hours and working extra to meet my team's goal but when I feel being taken advantage of, its a different story.  I should be doing 53 hours a week but really doing about 67.  I need advise from the pros out there....I am a hard worker but they are making me so exhausted, what should I do.....

That sounds a lot like my story four years ago: six days a weeks, long hours.  I am now 4 days a week by appointment only.  You can build your own book of business, if you do it correctly; the real value of the leads they are giving you is not in the sales it can make today - but the relationships you can stage for your future.

You are right - what you are doing is a recipe for burnout - and family disaster; I will share with you what I did about it, you can see my story here:  https://profiles.google.com/tobias.sedillos

Recognizing a need for change is the first part, but doing something about it is the rest.

Best,

Tobias

Glad to hear you're learning a lot right here on dealerELITE in a short amount of time. My hat is off to you for sharing, and from the gut level.

There are a few issues here that I see, one is the inconsistencies of your work schedule, and not being allowed to take the time off as scheduled. I happen to be one of the guys who sacrificed his family life to the dealership for many years. This was actually my own choice, so don't take me wrong as if I'm playing victim to the hours I dedicated.

Trust me when I tell you, my obsession with the car business was and still is over the top, as is most everything else I commit to. The difference for me today is very similar to Tobias, although I will admit I still put in a lot of time in working, and again at my own discretion.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with putting in extensive hours for success, so as long as you're happy doing it, your family is happy and benefiting, then all is good - share in it. If I was to suggest one thing to you that helps you in your career, it would be to take care of yourself best and you'll take care of others better.

Another issue here is the money your making for the time you're investing, 5 dollars an hour doesn't pencil out in your favor. How is your performance, units and gross in comparison to your pay plan and what is it going to take to achieve an acceptable wage for the time you're investing?

If you're over working and under performing then the best thing to do is take a good look at yourself as I have to do each and everyday, and ask, and then do what ever you can to perform better. It will take training, and by training right here on dealerELITE you are in the absolute right place. You'll find that dealerELITE members are eager and more than willing to be friends and share with you some hard earned experience.

Ask yourself those questions above now that we've identified some of the issues you've brought to the table. Let's put our heads together, seek solution for the issues at hand, and help you along in your career,- right here on dealerELITE.

I suggest we take it as far to invite your team members and the leaders of your dealership here to dealerELITE so that you and them can collaborate and come together here as well. The dealer and Managers you work for are successful for a reason in their own rights and with a little guidance for them, your team and you, could without question benefit by participating right here on dealerELITE.

The co founders of dealerELITE emphasize that dealerELITE is a safe haven to inspire, motivate and educate each other. We all learn by evolving each other, and the more you help the more you'll learn and evolve too...

Cheers to you for stepping up to the plate, and a warm welcome from me to you. B.C.

There HAS to be a balance of life.....

Working hard to achieve is a good thing.....but when you are burned out you are NO GOOD to ANYONE!

Thanks guys...You know, I notice the tension between my boyfriend and I lately and thats because he never sees me.  I love him to death!!!
