What are the Creative Ways to Increase your Facebook/Twitter Fanbase

What are the tools you are using to increase your Facebook/Twitter fan base?  Have you brainstormed ideas for your social media strategy in 2010?  What about 2011?  Some dealerships offer a big contest giveaway if their number of fans reach 1000, 2000 or 5000.  Putting all of the fans into a drawing with the winner receiving a cool prize like a digital camera, free oil changes, Apple products (ipad, iphone, etc.)
Others use the angle of giving to a charitable organization to increase fan base.  Example: "John Smith Dodge will give $1 to our local soup kitchen for every new follower our Twitter page receives for the month of December".
