In dealerELITE's latest poll/survey, members wanted to know which automotive inventory website do you prefer when marketing, selling, and/or buying vehicles?

The results show Autotrader at the top. But Craig's List was voted runner up. Are we seeing a shift in how we market our inventory?

Interesting.  Maybe it's just me, but I believe the shopping experience on Craigslist is so cumbersome and tedious that it's never going to be a primary destination spot for the millions of car buyers out there.  Shoppers want to be able to easily find exactly what they want without sifting through the garbage.  Just sayin'...
It's certainly not just you. Your comments are exactly right! Yes, marketing avenues are changing and expanding, and digital options like Craigslist have an important role, but they clearly are not going to surpass or supplant options like AutoTrader unless they become significantly more powerful (e.g. easy to use, flexible, comprehensive, etc.).

I agree witth you Joe, Craigslist is a great tool for marketing your used car inventory, 8,990.00 to 12,990.00 price range will get you better results. However it takes a plan of action and good salespeople to work any program. I think customers like going to craigslist because they don't get hit with 1000's of ads from car dealers, with craigslist it take them out of the pressure zone.

And thats just my thinking...

A question to ask yourself?

Customer is looking for a 2nd car for the family , what would he look for ?

1. a one ower car?

2. able to talk with the owner?

3. owners price is less?

4. If your a dealership would you want to talk to this customer?

Take nothing away from Autotrader and Cars.com they are great Companys.

But Im going to have my new and used cars on these sites also.
