Having a tough time finding good people. We are now looking for a rep in Oklahoma City. Any suggestions on how to find good people?

A long time ago and in a far-away land (seems like an eternity) I remember this statement made by "Tom", the Service Manager of Sarasota Cadillac (FL) about his success in receiving a GM Cadillac award of excellence - it's been a while so I'm paraphrasing.

I know it sounds corny but this award is for all of you - I wouldn't be receiving this award if I didn't surround myself with people who are smarter than me.

Tom’s statement was made in the 90’; but its simplistic truth has left an indelible impression on how I manage my business relationships ever since.

That said, there is something to be said about learning from others mistakes...

Big picture: Watching, listening, and learning from people - whether you consider them smarter than you or not; can certainly influence your thinking and actions.

Regardless of the successes of the people you surround yourself with; symbiotic relationships are they key - the notion of success by adhesion just won't stick.
