A young man who decided not to take my training class and picked up a job at a dealership sent this note to me:

"Hello there Dan, Today my first day of work I got feed to the wolves! LOL they told me to to grab keys and go out and find out about the product and so I did and it took me a few hours to mess around with all of the vehicles and when I was done with that I went to lunch and when I came back, I was put out with the other salesman. Wow I thought I was gonna recieve training of some sort? Or at least on how to approach a customer and how to start a car deal on the right foot..... I had 3 ups and some of their questioned stomped me and ended up turning them to another carsalesman that knew what he was doing? So I kinda got feed to wolves today and hopefully I get something different. Do you have advice for my situation? I feel like I made a bad choice on jobs?"
How often is this happening? Are you experiencing similar results in the field?
In this day an age, why are dealers using the same tactics for training that I received in 1981?

It boggles my mind why any organization let alone those in the auto industry would accept the practice of hiring new talent without providing any basis and understanding of how to be successful.

Thanks for sharing that story Dan, sad but to often true.It goes back to what I often ask...Did you hire em dead or kill em after they started?

Many of the top salespeople today tell me similar stories of their enterance to the car biz. They all confirm "If I had the proper training FROM THE BEGINNING, who knows where my career would have launched to." Every salesmanager that joins my class to share their story states the same - "Listen to this guy (me) and your career will get off on the right foot."
