Seems whenever whatever company I was working for placed an ad for a service writer, I would get a deluge of resume's, phone calls and people walking in.My first test for them was the application. If they came back in one minute or less with their name scribbled on front with "see attached" written across the application. Strike one. 

If they contacted me in some way and asked, "what is a service writer". That was usually a strike two but I wouldn't necessarily toss that one away because that might have some qualities I like.

If they do the CareerBuilder "check all" box and don't even know they applied for the job. That's a strike 3.

So what is the number one quality you look for in a service writer? Do you go over their resume and application and check for experience? Do you ask them the situation questions, "what would you do if....?"

Or do you just let them talk and get a sense of their personality. To me, people skills, being able to communicate are the most important part of being a service writer today. Do you agree?

Or is it selling skills? phone skills? Or the person who has the menu for every take out joint in town?
