Time to move on and do something about it.

 This True car deal is no different than the guy down the street advertising at cost or below. It's no different than when the internet came out and people were worried everyone will come in with the cost of a car. This simply is not the case. One thing will remain the same. The best trained sales force can overcome anything. What's your thoughts?

Fran - thanks for this blog.  I realize that selling cars isn't easy.  Never has been, never will be.  Here's a high school football coach that get's it.  I watch this anytime I get down or feel defeated at work.

Fran--Again...I agree. I don't believe in anybody practicing bad behavior to better themselves. I have spent the last 25+ years in the auto industry and many of my best friends own dealerships and I have personally held many positions at a dealership and served as an officer for the last four years at AutoNation, so I agree that TRUECar needs to better communicate with our friends and dealers in the industry. I hope that in the future we can work with other industry professionals to better serve both the consumer and the dealer.

 Michael if you don't want to damage the auto industry then Truecar should stop saying bad things that are untrue about my friends and dealers in the auto business. I'am talking how to overcome some of this bad business with something positive. Don't think for one minute I'am not against people being unjust with bad practices that deliberately hurt others to better themselves .

Fran--I agree, training in any business makes for a stronger company. The industry is evolving and dealers that learn how to effectively sell to gen X,Y and Z(M) will survive and flourish. Additionally, TRUECar needs to better manage the introduction process to make sure that dealers aren't displaying pricing that is "too good to be true" as Mr. Thibeau states. Unfortunately, videos that display unscrupulous dealer practices, only further damage our industry in the eyes of the consumer, regardless of who it is aimed at.

 Sometimes the thinning out of dealerships isn't a bad thing. Those dealers must be doing something wrong that they loose the store. My # 1 guess is lack of training. Thanks Mike.

Great points Fran.  I just finished a blog on ADM about this topic.  The one take away from this Truecar experience for me has been that we need to get back to training and teaching salespeople about follow-up, prospecting and salesmanship.  How many struggling salespeople lack these required skills?  If we truly satisfy our customers with an incredible presentation, smooth process and consistent follow up, no customer will ever visit Truecar.  Remember when people would brag about having a friend in the car business and they would send their friends and family in to see you.  We need to get back to the basics and make car buying a fun, exciting process.

 No one should have any fear of loosing there dealership because of Truecar. Truecar may wake a few dealers up to go back and do some of the old things that still work today.                                                                                I was in about 40 dealerships a week ago. Some have training classes every day Some dealers have a meeting once a week on Saturday. Not one dealer had a prospecting system different than the guy down the street.  Yes, some dealers had sales reps hand write the Birthday cards but all dealers send them out. Not one sales rep had different prospecting tools different than other dealers. Some sales reps had a tool or two but as a dealer no system.  Here is where to start to make 2012 a great year.
