During my attendance at PCG’s digital marketing summit in Napa, I had the pleasure of hearing JD Rucker speak about The Evolution of Social Media.  Although the topic was highlighted with the term Social Media – I walked away thinking of one word - Connection.  JD did an amazing job at showing us exactly how people are socially connecting today!

So many people misunderstand the term Social Media, and many think it is defined by a single word – Facebook.  By definition Social Media is an umbrella term that defines the various activities that integrate technology, social interaction, and the construction of words, pictures, video and audio.

How often do you include in a conversation…

·         Watch Me

We each have our own way of connecting with the people that influence us.  Yet not everyone has a Facebook or Twitter account, and personal I don’t care for Instant Messaging – some people prefer a phone call, while others like to text. Email is a great way to communicate a short message, or a very detailed message.  With applications such as Foursquare you can share your location with your entire circle of influence by the  single click of a button.  No matter how you choose to connect, chances are you are using technology to do it.

So how fantastic would it be to isolate your favorite ways to connect with just ONE platform?  Think how easy it would be for your clients, associates, family and friends to have one application with a list of all your links in one central place – your own mobile website!  All you would have to say now is “SparqMe”

I was first introduced to the QR code last summer at a marketing conference in Chicago.  I sat next to a man who worked for a high-tech communication company and he would not stop taking about how this new scan code was going to change the world.  Interestingly enough, I believe him!

Then again at NAPA, February 2011 – I knew that if JD Rucker was talking QR codes I had better get my head in the game…
