For anyone who finds it difficult to decide which car they want to buy, a new tool that merges psychology and technology can help.

Introducing: CarTron

According to a recent study, over 60% of new car buyers and 70% of used car shoppers have no specific car model in mind when they begin their car shopping journey. Most consider the internet to be the most influential source in their purchasing process, leading them to spend over 12 hours researching online. Yet online resources are mainly aimed at describing specific models or offering one-size-fits-all ratings, as opposed to delivering a truly personalized experience.

Leveraging the same technologies that have revolutionized how movies, music, and books are consumed online, CarHub.com has created the world's first science-based car recommendation engine - CarTron.

What is CarTron?

CarTron is a unique Advance Algorithm Personality Test (AAPT), designed by leading experts in behavioral science and statistics, as well as the automotive industry. The team that created it is led by data scientist Ravi Iyer, Ph.D. in Social Psychology, whose work has been featured in The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and dozens of peer-reviewed scholarly articles.

CarTron is designed to be fast, fun, science-based, and is 100% guaranteed to be impartial. Its results are never influenced by advertisers or the preferences of the CarHub team. Its advanced algorithm uses only data collected from multiple sources, including other test-takers, and never stops learning from it. So the more people interact with CarTron, the smarter it gets.

The only information required of someone taking the test is how much they’d like to spend on a car (based either on a monthly loan payment, lease payment, or total purchase price) and the body type of the vehicle preferred (e.g. SUV, coupe, sedan, etc.) But even if unsure of the type, CarTron will consider all available vehicles when determining the right car recommendation. You can also choose between new and used cars.

Beyond that practical information, the test is entirely subjective; its results based on the taker’s answers to a series of scientifically validated survey questions that measure aspects of a person’s personality.

There are a total of 30 questions in the test, but CarTron can produce results after only 6 questions are answered. Of course, the more answers it has, the more accurate the car matches will be. Even if the taker uses a good amount of time to consider the questions, the full test will take no more than 10 minutes, a considerably shorter time than the hours of homework time normally required of someone in search of the right car.

CarTron does all the work, searching its database of millions of cars and thousands of vehicle ratings to direct a car buyer directly to a specific vehicle recommendation tailored to both their budget and unique personality. From there, it’s just a matter of finding that vehicle in nearby dealer inventory – which CarHub can do from its real time inventory of millions of cars.

CarHub then not only helps through every step of the purchase process, but also offers a free On Board Diagnostic device to car owners that helps them manage their automotive life and keep their car match running smoothly long after they’ve driven it home.
