How To Create A Better First Impression

Today we’re going to focus on a basic, but often lost practice of How to Make the Perfect First Impression.

Depending on the research that you listened to, some people say that you have around 7-20 seconds to make a good first impression.

See, YOU DON’T GET A SECOND CHANCE to make a good first impression.

So I want to give you a couple of reminders on how to make sure that you make better first impressions with your customers.

1. Smile!

When I walk in a dealership and I see salespeople go and greet a customer for the first time, I can often tell if they’re going to be successful in selling the car today just by the approach of the salesperson in their smile. A smile breaks down so many barriers that releases endorphins not only in you, but it feels welcoming to the customer and gives them a positive feeling about you and the dealership.

 2. Be Enthusiastic!

There’s nothing more awkward than when a customer walks in, and all salespeople are busy talking to one another or on the phones… In many ways, the customer seems like an inconvenience to that salesperson. But this customer might be your only opportunity to sell a car that day!

So this is what I want you to do this week with every customer that walks in. “Welcome to _____________, My name Is __________________ (extend your hand for a handshake). And you’re name is?”

Make sure you look them in the eye and give them a big smile, be enthusiastic is your voice, you keep some nice eye contact. Wait for their name, and when you hear their name, repeat it back to them so you remember it. If you need to, take out a notepad out of your pocket right that person’s name down. Make sure you greet the whole family. If there’s a wife, there’s kids, make sure you extend your hand and shake hands with every single member of that family.

And then just simply say to them, “What brings you to the dealership today?”

With this question, you’ll find out if they’re there to see somebody in particular, you’ll find out exactly they’re motives of being in your dealership today!

Remember, customers are often apprehensive about walking into your dealership! So a professional, enthusiastic and friendly welcome goes a long way to building a great first impression and therefore building more rapport.

I hope those simple but effective tools will help you become better in your first impressions and therefore sell more cars!

Have a great selling week!
