R U a Noun or Verb Christian?

What is your faith like...is it a noun, a thing, or a verb, something in action to which others might point and remark there is something "different" about you.

This is not an academic exercise. There is nothing that Jesus preached or His apostles wrote about faith and following Christ that is not verb-oriented. Yes, faith itself is a noun, but as James says, faith without works is dead. Please do not read this to mean works = salvation. Scripture is very clear that salvation is by faith alone.

So, what do we mean by being a Verb Christian? Is it attending church or tithing or donating time and money to charity...or taking care of an elder relative? These are all good things we all should do, if presented with the opportunity. Church attendance by itself simply says the individual attends church -- it reveals nothing about their changed heart, their obedience to Christ's commands or their submission of their ego/themselves/stuff/TV/sport/business to God and to others (especially their spouse).

Hi Donna - That is the hard part -- being loving while being truthful. Personally, my personality struggles with the being loving part, so I know this is part of any correction or rebuke that I must pray and do carefully. Our pastor on Sunday talked how the church often places relationships above the truth. This is destructive. We do no one a favor by deferring to maintaining a relationship or not hurting their feelings so we DO NOT speak the truth -- about their walk, their discipline, their obedience, their sin. It is the truth that will set them free, not being nice to them. I have seen some grievous examples of wrong teaching being allowed to happen and continue because leaders didn't want to "hurt feelings." Shame, shame. Be kind, be gentle as you can be, but be clear about the truth. Truth above relationships (I am preaching as much here to myself as to you). Thanks for your continued activity on this site Donna, Bobby and others.

Thank you both Bobby and Jim! I am struggling with a couple of difficult relationships with believers who are in the wrong and need to be corrected gently--or maybe just prayed for--I am asking God what to do. I don't want to be judgmental and critical, and yet the scriptures say to rebuke your neighbor frankly (or you share in the wrong) and to speak the truth in love. It's the IN LOVE part that I am asking God for help and He is really faithful. He used both of you to confirm that He is going to help work through these situations. Appreciate your fellowship!

Bobby -- Very true and apporpriate. This brings to mind what sometimes happens, is fellow believers sometimes use this verse against  someone who tried to correct a brother or sister in Christ. When a brother comes along side to reproof and correct, as we are instructed to do when a brother is not in righteouseness and living not in truth, that is not judgment. Key: Wisdom

Amen, Jim! I used to work for a predominantly Jewish publishing company here in the D.C. area and they would have lengthy discussions on the end of the world, basing it on the New Testament book of Revelations (go figure). I said the same thing to my Jewish publisher (nicely): You are so concerned about the end of the world when you could be in a car wreck and your life could end today! We really do need to be vigilant in prayer for people who don't know the Lord.

End Times?

Lots of news and opinions about the recent May 21 End Times Prophecy. Those of us who actually spend time studying Holy Scripture knew (know) the correct answer is found in Matthew 24:36. However, let us all realize -- let every man realize -- the end time for them, individually, might be their next breath. If you have someone in your life to whom you have not shared the scripture, keep this ticking clock in mind; be sure you are ready too.

On the topic of evangelism, have any of you seen the "Evangelism Linebacher" on YouTube? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvYFvhx1dcY It's hilarious, but still makes you think seriously about evanglism.

Tom -- Wonderful synopsis of the key truths in those chapters of Matthew. Yes, the whole creation groans -- all the recent weather and geography related events should cause us all to wonder. There are clues too as well in what is happening in the Mid East and other political movements. Finally, yes, pray that men and women of God search the Scriptures daily and take the great commission -- go forth and create disciples of all nations -- to heart. Thanks for your comments!

Pray that Bible study groups arise now in great numbers.  Jesus' escha tological discourse (Matthew 24 & 25) is the fifth book in Matthew given on The Mount of Olives just 2 days before the feast of Passover, (Matthew 26:2) Holy Thursday, His Last Supper.  His disciples have received His Word; they know He is "I AM", God Himself in the 2nd Person.  This discourse in its entirety reveals "Truth" of end times to believers.  The disciples believe, yet will deny Him and run away 3 days later, then 3 days after His death they will see him risen.  Yet, even then, Jesus is still preparing them for the 'time' 50 days after Easter, on the feast of Pentacost, when His Holy Spirit reveals everything they have learned, and their hearts are opened and burning, and they fully understand, and nearly 5,000 were converted that day.  A fair question for us to pray upon is whether the recent catastrophic events of a Tsunami and even all the killing Tornado's here are "labor pains", Mt 24:8 to the end times.  We are reminded here that we must be vigilant, we must be watchful, we must prepare ourselves and others.  For me, personally, these times remind me of my responsibility for "souls" of those I love, those that hate me, and everyone in between.  Nothing here matters, except for the saving of every single soul to Jesus Christ; nothing!  May God bless us all abundantly!
