R U a Noun or Verb Christian?

What is your faith like...is it a noun, a thing, or a verb, something in action to which others might point and remark there is something "different" about you.

This is not an academic exercise. There is nothing that Jesus preached or His apostles wrote about faith and following Christ that is not verb-oriented. Yes, faith itself is a noun, but as James says, faith without works is dead. Please do not read this to mean works = salvation. Scripture is very clear that salvation is by faith alone.

So, what do we mean by being a Verb Christian? Is it attending church or tithing or donating time and money to charity...or taking care of an elder relative? These are all good things we all should do, if presented with the opportunity. Church attendance by itself simply says the individual attends church -- it reveals nothing about their changed heart, their obedience to Christ's commands or their submission of their ego/themselves/stuff/TV/sport/business to God and to others (especially their spouse).

Maybe I made you laugh,

Perhaps I made you cry,

Possibly I entertained you,

or caused you to shake your head and wonder, “Why?”

You might call me an acquaintance, associate or friend

The depth and texture of our relationship has a beginning and end.

You make think of me fondly or in a darker light;

Could be you never gave me a second thought and just smiled to be polite.

I am unfettered by perceptions and thoughts of being held in high regard;

I may have helped your healing or my words may have left you scarred.

Whatever facet of me you have seen or what label on me you have adorned,

Your assessment is either accurate or potentially misinformed.

In seeking your approval there is only one thing I hope you did not miss,

I trust that through my facades and posturing you were able to see this:

A reflection of God’s love and forgiveness, His mercy and His grace,

It should not ever be considered what time or what place.

The Cross of Christ is where my hope and salvation are laid,

All my debts, sins and short-comings, the Creator of the universe has paid.

His love is yours to accept and receive,

A most difficult task but at the core quite simple to just believe.

The King of all creation nailed to an accursed tree,

To reconcile His relationship with you and with me.

Jesus restored what what we severed and shattered,

He knew the cost and atoned for us, we were all that mattered.

As arguments cease and the echoes of debates fade,

There is one enigma we cannot evade:

What about the Cross? What does it mean and why was it done?

Why would the Almighty God, the Ancient of Days pay our ransom with His Son?

We wrest and grapple for a decision, commitment causes us to  tremble with fear,

When we let go of all else to embrace the Cross we see with new eyes, God came near

What will we do with the Cross?  When at last we answer this question,

All other queries lose their significance in the Light of Redemption

The Cross, the Cross, the wondrous Cross.

What about the Cross?

Have you entered His rest? We become converted and accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. And nothing seems to change for many of us. What's the problem? Hebrews discusses this at length. Being born again is step 1 -- yet too many Christians grow no further. God's rest comes from abiding in Christ, submission to Christ, changing our lives (behavior, ideas, talk, viewing habits, will) to be more like Christ's....Gal. 2:20-- "The life I live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God." This is step 2, the maturing of the saint...the abiding saint, pursuing holiness in our daily walk...this is where we find the peace that surpasses all understanding (Phil 4:7). My prayers for all my brothers and sisters is that they may grow in their application of Scripture to their lives, surrender their will to our Lord's and then trust the Holy Spirit to continue its work in us, drawing us into God's rest.

Our western WIIFM culture has caused far too many to lose their spirituality and forget their Godly story.  Going to Church with a spiritual purpose to become a better example of Our Lord is a must for all of us, whether or not we walk there in this heat or take the car out of the garage.  The problem isn't out there in our culture but in here in our hearts.  We desperately need to become more spiritual and committing to Church with a purpose more regularly is required --- as in His first commandment!  Don't let our culture ruin our purpose!

Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

I have been trying to help this little girl out. She just turned 17 and is going for second abortion. Last night she was found doing heroin and said no one cares. Please say a little prayer for E. Thanks.

10 commitments that will make your life count for Jesus-

Great reminder Donna. Although we try to do all 10, it is easy to slip into our daily routines and lose focus on what is really important and what we are called to do as Christians. Thanks for sharing.        Gary

I heard this on the way home from my son's fifth-grade kickball game today. This is 10 commitments that can make your life count.

10 commitments that will make your life count for Jesus

1. I will spend quality time with God in prayer and the Word.

2. I will walk in purity of heart and integrity of life in thought, speech and deeds.

3. I will not be ashamed of Jesus but will confess Him boldly as Lord and Savior.

4. I will practice the Great Commission.

5. I will seek to be a peacemaker, an ambassador of reconciliation.

6. I will walk in love with those who reject me. Romans 12:21

7. I will pursue believers who are like-minded in spirit, not separate myself from fellowship.

8. I will practice the ministry of mercy, giving and serving others.

9. I will pursue righteousness and justice and involve myself in a moral cause.

10.I will seek the fullness of the Spirit, all God has for me.

Shall we just speak to "Truth?"

John 17:11b-19:  Lifting up His Eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed, saying: "Holy Father, keep them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one just as we are one.  When I was with them I protected them in your name that you gave me, and I guarded them, and none of them was lost except the son of destruction, in order that the Scripture might be fulfilled.  But now I am coming to you.  I speak this in the world so that they may share my joy completely.  I gave them your word, and the world hated them, because they do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world.  I do not ask that you take them out of the world but that you keep them from the Evil One.  They do not belong to the world any more than I belong to the world.  Consecrate them in the truth.  Your word is truth.  As you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world.  And I consecrate myself for them, so that they also may be consecrated in truth."  The Gospel of the Lord.

Jesus' Last Supper farewell discourse identifies clearly for us "Truth" and "Oneness."  We are not one (individuals), but two, being one with God and each other.  Jesus 2nd greatest commandment is to love each other as ourselves, or to love each other as God is in each of us, so love God through each other.  The only "Truth" is the word of God.  All man-made truth results in man judging man, which Jesus clearly warns us avoiding.

We are each called to become the best example of ourselves, or in Oneness, the best example of Him, since we are in him and He is in us.  We are "consecrated in the truth."  Therefore, we (each and every one of us Baptized in Christ) are responsible for the souls of each other.

You may say to another: "I am responsible for your soul, and we are responsible for each others souls, which is Truth (the word of God).  'So that they may be one just as we are one' is God telling us we are to be one with each other and Him.  To be one together leaves self behind, no thought of our selfish wants and needs but what God wants of us as one living in His Truth."

All that flows outward in this world is to flow backward into its source - God.  And when this happens, and not before, do we find rest and tranquility.  When all that goes to make up a man's being has become lovingly one with God, then all the soul's cries are hushed, and the unrest of longing and of acting has ceased.  We crave this unity, even those not selflessly One with God, and currently living of this world.  True unity can never come except in God, the only being wholly one.

The feast of Pentacost was yesterday, where God the Father and God the Son sent down their Holy Spirit in the Upper Room and The Church officially was birthed spreading evangelization immediately.  Happy Birthday Church!  It wasn't man who evangelized, but the Holy Spirit.  Man was and is simply the conduit in Oneness that allows the Holy Spirit to do what He, in Oneness in the Trinity, and with us, does in reaching those lost and brings them Home.  We must not allow egotism to ruin our role here of selfless servants to the One in Oneness with Him. Let judging be left to Truth, to God Himself.  Meanwhile, we are to seek Oneness with all accepting responsibility for each others soul!  May God bless us abundantly!

Pray and pray unceasingly that we "may be one", that we may speak the truth of Oneness in God.
