How much should a dealership spend on SEM or Keywords/pay per click ad campaigns?

How many keywords should you focus on?  What kind of Goals need to be put in place?

Should you be paying for clicks when people search for you by name?

Is a 15% commission on money spent to high?

Buying or Not buying your name:
This is a highly debated point. I've heard pros argue both sides. I would definitely buy your name if your competitors are buying your name, it's worth the couple dollars per click to have your name above their attempt to poach. If your competitors are not doing that, it's your personal preference. I'm personally a fan of buying the name because for a couple bucks, you appear multiple times in the top slots. (Search + Ad at top) and increase the chances someone will click into your site.

Commission vs. Monthly Management Fee:
I've always been a bigger fan of paying a flat monthly management fee vs. a % commission. At a % commission, the company may be incentivized to spend more in terms of maximum ad budget and/or add keywords to the list that may not be the most relevant, but will still lead to spend/payout. Most commission based do not do this, but I've run into some in the past who do. That's one of the reasons why we offered a flat monthly management fee for our PPC Deal this month at Dealers United.

Hope that helps,
Christian
