SUMMARY:How to Use Awareness and Mindfulness to Prevent Accidents
DESCRIPTION:Awareness of the causes of accidents can help management m
inimize the number and severity of incidents in the workplace.\nCompli
 mentary webinar Thursday February 21, 2013, 12:00pm Eastern Time\nEver
y now and again a life altering accident happens in a dealership. Even
one time is too many. Most often the “accidents” in and around de
alerships involve cuts, scrapes, bruises, slips, trips and falls. Ofte
n managers say “Accidents happen—there is nothing to do about it
. Certainly accidents do happen. How often and the severity of the ac
cidents is somewhat dependent on the awareness and mindfulness of mana
gement. The review of several accidents is a reminder of what can go w
rong and how fast it can happen. Awareness of the causes of accidents
can help management minimize the number and severity of incidents in t
he workplace. Establishing a culture of awareness does make a differen
ce. When management decides a “Culture of Safety” is part of the c
ore value of the company, safety happens. When management is mindful o
f the primary, easy to spot hazard areas and communicates this to the
workforce, safety happen. If you do not care, “they” will not care
. This is not difficult. The greatest hurtle is making an effort to be
aware. Having a short list of items you care about improving and look
ing at these items. Over the period of a year, you will have a company
with reduced accidents through manager awareness of what is going on
and manager mindfulness to make sure unsafe behaviors are altered.\nPr
esented by: Janet Wimmer, Regulatory Analyst, KPA\n\nJanet Wimmer
has been working in Safety and Environmental Regulations since the reg
ulations began in the 70’s and 80’s. Having had a small recycling
business that received the first EPA permit in Tennessee, she has suff
ered the pain of regulation while trying to keep a business afloat. Sh
e later started her own EHS Compliance Consulting company focusing on
dealers. Dealing with the practical points of regulation and conveying
these regulations clearly are her strong points.\n\nFor more informat
