Customer appreciation

Having been a Service Manager, Advisor, Dispatcher, Parts Manager and prior to that a retail store manager I know what drives a business forward. It is a dedication to customer service - "Service to the customer supersedes all other assignments" If the owner of a business truly believes and practices this simple rule customer loyalty will soar. A genuine interest in giving each and every customer the best experience will make everyone happy. Always look for ways to give customers honest…

Automotive ROI Marketing- A guide for Dummies (or the rest of us)

What exactly is ‘ROI Marketing’? Simply put, ‘ROI Marketing’ means measurable results for the dollars spent to promote a product, brand, or individual. In today’s ‘New Age’ of the Automotive Retail industry every penny, every second, and every customer count more than ever. The ability to laser-pinpoint the target market, speak to it, and measure the results are critical to the success of your dealership.

Return On Investment (ROI)

The old saying "50% of my advertising is…

The Customer Experience - Pay Attention!

In today’s competitive marketplace we must place our focus on the most important part of the business which is our customer. In my position travel is a must and exposes me to the differences companies place on the customer. The airlines are a prime example when hot meals have been replaced with a small bag of pretzels and a cup of soda. Seats are crammed together with long lines to be processed into the aircraft. Customers complain of lost luggage and poor service as prices soar into the…

"Mr. T," Donald Toresco Passes Away

Longtime New Jersey dealer Donald Toresco, an elite dealer in our industry, passed away Sunday at age 71. He opened his first dealership in the early 1970's -- Dodgeland, U.S.A. -- which became one of the top selling dealerships in the country.

Toresco renamed the dealership "AutoLand" after adding several franchises during the 1980's. In 2010, Toresco Enterprises ranked as the 76th largest dealergroup in the country according to the… Continue

The Hits Keep on Coming!

Over the past few weeks I’ve been on the road pretty much non-stop.  A few of the first time dealers I’ve recently trained are: Panama City Toyota, Stokes Mazda, Kia Country, Courtesy Chevrolet and Superior Chevrolet.  One of the great things that has come out of our “Personality Selling Seminar” at the dealerships is they…

Videos Have More Power Than You Think

Awhile ago, when I was with HomeNet Automotive, I wanted a demo video of a live video walk-around for myself as I was 1) playing with a new camera and 2) trying out some new features within HomeNet's software.

I enlisted the help of a training and sales manager at a Ford dealership near where I live (and one I happened to be visiting that day) to do a quick one for me. I uploaded it and used it a couple of times but then…

When Little Complaints Become Big Problems

The vast majority of dissatisfied customers who threaten to call an attorney never do. For the few that follow through, the results can be devastating. While it’s true that many customers’ complaints have little or no merit, there can be a real danger if the wrong plaintiff’s attorney gets involved.

You may be thinking “we have lawyers of our own and insurance for that sort of thing, so bring it on”. Well, here’s the problem: many lawsuits that stem from seemingly…

How to Really Get Conversions from Social Media

Diligence. That’s it. There is no skill required, no tool necessary, no special knowledge to get you leads through social media. If you are diligent, you will succeed. Of course, there are tools, techniques, skills, and special knowledge that can make it a whole lot easier and more successful. Even with these, you still need diligence.

The tools are out there.…

5 Reasons Dealerships Need a Social Media Manager

Car dealers in Southern California (and probably everywhere else) are asking themselves whether or not they need a Social Media manager. Many are noticing the popularity of Social networks and it was all the rage at NADA2011. The problem is they don’t know who, how, why, when or where to start. I wrote in a post a… Continue

Revolutionary Social Media

Social media has been featured a lot lately in the headlines but not as we might have suspected, either as an advertising tool or because a celebrity reveled some shocking personal information.   No instead it is being credited with helping spread freedom of speech and creating revolution.

Recent events in Egypt have proved without a shadow of a doubt that social media reaches far beyond entertainment and advertising.  In the past traditional media was the only way to infuse public… Continue

The Jump From Service To Sales...

Hey folks! I have been in the automotive service industry for about 17 years, both as a tech and most recently as a service writer. I was a writer for about ten years. I enjoyed what I did, and was rather successful at what I did. After a while, I got "worn out" because I realized that at the service desk, I was in the hot seat all day long. After a lifestyle change last year, I felt I was ready for a career change. I second guessed myself, feeling that a career change at 36 years old was a…
