Customer Focus

Today’s dealerships spend tens of thousands of dollars every month to reach new customers and get them inside the dealership doors. A large amount of these funds are spent on newspapers that end up as a floor mat the next day for a birdcage. I’ve seen thousands of dollars spent on service ads, that promote super low price oil changes to drive traffic that will spend nothing on suggested needs…

Unhappy Car Dealers

If I had a dollar for every time a car dealer expressed their discontent with AutoTrader and a dollar for every time they claimed that AutoTrader failed to address their concerns, I’d be a wealthy man.

Can Dealers Merchandise Their Vehicles For Free?

Uploading Under the Umbrella

By: Laura Madison, National Director of Sales at Alan Ram's Proactive Training Solutions

The most frequent question I get asked by salespeople who want to use social media to sell cars is, “where do I start?” Many salespeople want to leverage social…

How much Time are You Wasting Researching Your Inventory

Based on our research, the average Internet Manager, Inventory Manager, Sales Manager, GSM, and or GM spend an hour a day checking out the competition. Sure, an hour a day doesn’t seem to be too long when it comes to understanding the current market place, but what if you have 3 sales managers, 1 Internet Manager, 1 inventory manager, 1 GSM, and 1 GM, you can see the amount of time that is spent each day adds up.

Also, you must consider the amount of information you can truly find by…

How to Capture More Revenue Without Much Effort

One of the advantages of Pre-Paid Maintenance Programs (PPM) is that they span the generational gaps. Regardless of which generation consumers happen to be in, none of them like surprise repairs, or other expenses. That’s why dealers focus on payments – and not price – when selling cars.

Consumers want fixed expenses. When it comes to millennials, they tend…

10 Things To Stop You Getting "Sales Sick"

This past week I’ve had my nephew from Melbourne staying with us while he is on university holidays. He is in his second year on the way to becoming a doctor, but unfortunately all his studies so far couldn’t prevent him from getting food poisoning last night! (Must have been my cooking!)
Absolutely no one likes getting sick. But when you do get sick, thank goodness there are doctors and hospitals on call to help get us back on out feet again.
The problem…

Sometimes you should say what you will not do to make a sale

I will never forget selling vehicles online in the 80's.  After three years, I had my own advertising, my own customer base, my own phone pops, set my own hours, and got paid on everything.  Although most of my inquiries began online or with a phone call, I had the highest gross average in the store.

Just like your inquiries, phone pops and emails would be about…

People and the Road to Dealership Profitability

My Company Recently launched a blog, here is an article one of my partners wrote. (Link is at the bottom)

Your People are the Lynchpins of Your Dealership

Leaving the most crucial aspect of your business for last was not by accident. Your people are the lynchpins of your dealership. You can focus on product and process all day, but people make or break the success of your business.

Throughout my career I've had the fortune to observe hundreds of dealerships, large and…

Come on – Does Video REALLY sell cars?

Technology has drastically changed the way businesses and auto dealers operate. Hey, think about it. It was not too far in the distant past that we did just about everything via fax machine. Leads came in, financing was secured and, well, just about everything was via fax.

Consider this… there was once a time when radio and newspaper were the dominant media…

Who's Bad? The Coach or The Players?

One (bad) habit I have every single morning is to check Fox Sports News the moment my feet are on the floor… For a sports fanatic like me, it’s a priority to check in with the overnight Premier League and Champions League scores.

This week has been a big week for that!

Barcelona getting done 4-0 to PSG! What the!

And yesterday, Arsenal getting done 5-1 to Bayern! That’s insane!

As I was reading the report of the Arsenal game, I came…

Culture, Customers and Your Dealership in a Flattening Market

If you examine the average dealership’s sales since 2010, you’ll notice that they’ve steadily been growing year-over-year. Of course, the average dealer has been growing because the market has been growing; and while everyone has seen sales increases over the last several years, only a small percentage of dealers have experienced an actual increase in their…
