Are self-sealing tyres the game changer?

Self-sealing tyres are those tyres which are filled (partially) with a sealant, which is evenly distributed in the tube once the tyres start rolling. In case of a puncture, the sealant prevents air leakage from the tube. And the rubber used in making such tyres is of a special kind which repairs itself in case of a puncture just by the application of a hydrogel which is applied on the inner walls of such tyres during their production. Such tyres are called self-sealing tyres. This advanced technology helps prevent the tyres from running flat and further prevents their cracking and any damages to the car tyres Bangalore.

Reliability and functioning

Self-sealing tyres are highly reliable and the complex compound used to make the rubber of these tyres is made which such properties that it forms reversible strong bonds such that after a puncture, it can seal the holes and function properly again.

In case of small punctures, due to a small h*** in the tube and tyre, the sealant is able to fill the space of the h*** and prevents the leakage of air from the tube.

Self-sealing tyres heal 80% of tyre punctures. Generally, small punctures are not observed in self-sealing tyres because the air leakage is negligible that it is not observed and in some time, the puncture heals itself.

Comparison with normal tyres

The normal tyres when get punctured, without sealants, they become flattened and they may develop cracks in them on frequent punctures or even develop cuts due to the wheel hub. The sealants prevent the tyres from this.

The use of sealants is very economical and it further prevents the tyres from punctures which further saves the cost.

Sealants are used in various other industries also like the aerospace industry, automotive industry, aquariums, casting, engines, hydraulic systems, reservoirs etc.

Self-sealing tyres have emerged out to be of great advantage. Self-sealing tyres work very efficiently and can be very helpful in emergency conditions.

Use of sealants, on a primitive stage, is very useful for treating punctures. But self-sealing tyres are on a whole new level.

Comparison with tubeless tyres

The tubeless tyres are a different concept but they are also not puncture proof. In such tyres, as the name suggests, there is no tube. Which means that air is filled between the wheel rim and the tyre and stored there with the help of an airtight valve. They are prone to punctures and need to be repaired if punctured.

On the other hand, self-sealing tyres can be called as almost puncture proof since they can repair the punctures on their own.

Self-sealing tyres: The game changer

Self-sealing tyres present a new level of science and technology in front of the world. Once they come into use, they will prevent so many damages to the tyres and to the vehicles. They will reduce so many costs of maintenance of tyres and give so much more confidence to the drivers. Punctures are a major threat to vehicles today. Be it a small Maruti 800 or a big Mercedes Benz, all are prone to punctures. They consume so much of labour as well as time. A lot of materials are used in repairing even small punctures like silicon gels and many others. With the help of this new technology of self-sealing tyres, all of this can be avoided.  The functioning of tyres will reach a whole new level. They are surely going to be a game changer! The concept of punctures will become outdated and a lot of time and resources will be saved which can be utilised for better purposes.

A lot of businesses will be ruined because of this concept, especially in a country like India where certain people survive only by repairing punctures in cycles and motor vehicles. A lot of old tyres will be wasted but the rubber can be utilised for a lot of other purposes.

But this new concept of self-sealing tyres will further bring a lot of new advancements in all technical fields and is surely a basis for the start of a whole new subject of research and development.
