Companies like Lyft and Uber have changed the face of society as we know it, and taxis have to compete with dangerous new rivals.


To further this trend, Lyft recently made the business decision to funnel cash into opening car repair shops for its drivers. The first of these locations have already opened its doors in San Francisco.


Why the Car Repair Business?


The ultimate goal behind this decision comes about with the intention of helping drivers to lower their overall costs. At the Lyft repair shop in San Francisco, you can do hourly repair for as little as $95. That's slightly below the average in the industry, which will allow Lyft drivers to save money and keep driving.


When it comes to the repairs at the shop, they will mostly be slanted towards some of the more basic repairs, such as brake changes, alternator changes and oil changes. Some services will also get offered as a package deal so that people can get the most from these services.


For example, you could choose to package everything into one from an oil change, tire rotation and a car wash for as little as $70. Driver's can get up to 50 percent off with these services, making them a highly valuable choice.


Could It Placate Angry Drivers?


One of the reasons that this decision may have been made was to help keep its drivers happy. Many have complained about the falling wages, which makes it harder to survive in a world of rising costs.


In one case, a 25 percent pay cut was made against the drivers, which has led to angry protests and marches against both Uber and Lyft.


How Lyft Has Performed


Considering all that Lyft has done to revolutionize the industry, we see an incredible company that has done a lot of interesting things. For example, their vehicle rental program has made the job available to more drivers than ever before. Because of that, it makes sense that they would want to protect those cars through affordable repair services.


Experts at, a one-stop shop for online auto parts, weighed in on the news, “ We think that these companies are revolutionary in their way of shaking things up in an industry that was stuck in a mold.”


While the car repairs is a novel new approach for the company, they have also offered bank accounts, which isn't terribly innovative. In fact, their competitor Uber was doing this before them, and they're most likely doing this as a way of competing. The first of the Lyft repair shops have already come to fruition, and we will likely see more of it in the future.
