Unfortunately not all managers think like you Marsh . The majority of managers always want to send there sales staff to training and don't go themselves . Seems like when a lot of managers become managers the learning stops . This is easy to prove by asking them when is the last time they went to any training classes . The ones that have invested the time to go to some kind of training are the easiest to work with . Good info Marsh . Best of luck .

Fran, you can't become a pro, until you take the reps-unfortunately it cannot all be done in a classroom setting,& sometimes takes "live fire". In my opinion, it takes salespeople making hundreds-if not thousands of tiny mistakes and miscues, throughout their career, and managers passionate enough to find an opportunity in every instance to coach them to excellence.

I'm sure there are dealerships that have it down to a fine science, yet I've yet to hear of one that isn't dealing with a few, some, many, or all or more of the aforementioned problems. Any manager who says they are not experiencing any/all of these is suffering from delusion.

Everyone can use training-the thing I love is being able to help a salesperson finally see "IT" the thing(s) that is holding them back only to "suddenly" take off to another dimension of prosperity in their career. The cool thing is we both get to learn. I learn by not only coaching through daily experiences, but I am committed to being a lifelong student of my industry. I will always be a student of the game.

Thanks Fran for taking the time to comment as well as your contributions to dE and our profession. You are 1rst class my friend.
Interesting post Marsh . Interesting post Marsh . A sales reps that takes more ups isn't going to help the dealership sell more cars unless he/she is a super pro . If that is the case they shouldn't have to be living on fresh ups . If a dealership has the problems you mentioned I think the manager needs help training the sales reps . Just my thoughts .

Pat, I've been right there with u my friend. Most customers will leave without buying a vehicle, I just don't want to be the reason why they won't be back. It's so hard for us bc we want to- even have to make that next sale & when we see that it may not happen our personalities instantly change. That's why it's so important to have plenty of ups to insure your month.

Pat I appreciate your insight sir. It's funny no matter where we are in the world, our business is much the same ;)

Brilliant as always. To reinforce point 8, Friday I had a lady who claimed she could get €4,000 more on her trade from another dealership for the same vehicle, I asked why she did not take the deal and she told me she did not like the salesman unfortunately he did not like me enough to pay my price when I asked for her business.
Thanks for sharing.
