How distracted are your employees with smartphones at work?

Good afternoon Dealer Elite Members and associates,

I have been noticing a disturbing trend in retail lately and I am sure it is also true in other areas of the workforce as well. As we become more and more connected with Social Media, Smartphones and the internet red flags are popping up everywhere for me.

Everyone is becoming more and more distracted and this means productivity, focus and results are being affected. Of course this is happening when driving in most places and we now have laws to prevent this behavior. The question is do you have laws at your dealership?

Think about it, how much of your staffs day are now spent online with their smartphones? Don't think it's a problem look around and really look because most staff are concealing it right now. How much of the workday is being consumed with personal "online" business and how much is it costing you right now. Don't believe me?

Here are a few articles that you need to read today:

What do you do to fix the problem today?

One: Just like the old days with personal calls at work there needs to be a policy in place and more importantly it needs to be enforced. There is no reason why most workers need to have their cell phone on at at their desk every day all day.

Two: You need to put a policy in place but more importantly explain why it is in place. You are paying these workers and they are stealing productivity every day from you.

Three: This problem is increasing every day. I can't tell you how many dealerships I visit where all or most of the staff is spending most of their day on their cell phone. This is costing you money it's that simple.

Monitor, regulate, enforce and replace staff if needed. Younger staff are more likely to do this but it is impacting all staff and the problem is getting worse every day.

Correct me if I am wrong but getting salespeople, managers, support staff and customers to focus is a constant problem. The use of smartphones everywhere does not fix this problem, it makes in worse.

Please send me comments, concerns and feedback and grow your business by getting this problem handled today!
