Small Pickups Continuing To See Gains

This week’s Market Insights Report shows how small pickups and full-size cars both showed gains this past week, even though we’re getting deep into summer. The report also highlights trends from the latest monthly Vehicle Retention Index, which increased +0.5% in July.

“Sub-Compact Cars have started to show some weakness after a strong retention trend earlier this year. On the other hand, Sub-Compact Crossovers are continuing to do relatively well.”

  • Volume-weighted, overall car segment values decreased by just 0.20% last week. In comparison, the values had decreased at a rate of 0.22% per week during the previous four weeks.
  • Among car segments, Sub-Compact Car values decreased the most last week.
  • Volume-weighted, overall truck segment (including pickups, SUVs, and vans) values decreased by 0.15% last week. In comparison, the values had decreased at a rate of 0.24% per week during the previous four weeks.
  • Among truck segments, Full-Size Van values decreased the most last week.
