This week’s Market Insights Report shows car and truck segments with almost the same overall depreciation trend this past week. The report also highlights car and truck retention dating back to the end of February, illustrating how cars have shown a stronger overall retention rate for most of the year.

“The overall used vehicle market is doing extremely well, bucking the seasonal trend seen in previous years. This time last year, the weekly drop in values was five times the rate seen today,” said Anil Goyal, Executive Vice President, Operations, Black Book.

  • Volume-weighted, overall car segment values decreased by just 0.11% last week. In comparison, the values had decreased at a rate of 0.20% per week during the previous four weeks.
  • Among car segments, Prestige Luxury Car values decreased the most last week.
  • Volume-weighted, overall truck segment (including pickups, SUVs, and vans) values decreased by 0.10% last week. In comparison, the values had decreased at a rate of 0.20% per week during the previous four weeks.
  • Among truck segments, Full-Size Van values decreased the most last week.
