ANNUAL SWAPALEASE.COM “NFL AND CARS” SURVEY PAIRS NFL TEAMS WITH CERTAIN TYPES OF CARS AND TRUCKS

Car Enthusiasts Also Weigh in On Topics Like National Anthem Debate, Loss of Interest in Football, and Vehicle Subscription Services

Swapalease.com, the nation’s largest car lease marketplace, unveiled today results from its fourth annual “NFL and Cars” survey, offering predictions car enthusiasts have on the upcoming NFL season, and ranking which types of cars remind them of NFL franchises.

While the majority of those polled said the New York Giants (10.8%) are their favorite football team, a whopping 27% believe the New England Patriots (27%) will win the Super Bowl. Interestingly enough, only 22.6% of those polled said they are a “Diehard fan and cannot wait for the season to start”; this is down from 33% answering this question back in 2015.

Recent media reports have indicated he NFL has been losing its core fan base the last few years: A survey conducted by The Wall Street Journal and NBC News revealed that adults who say they follow the league closely have dropped 9 percent since 2014.

According to NFL fans taking the survey:

  • Which NFL team reminds you most of a Tesla S: New England Patriots (13.7%)
  • Which NFL team reminds you most of a driverless car: Cleveland Browns (19.3%)
  • Which NFL team reminds you most of a rusty car: Cleveland Browns (27%)
  • Which NFL team reminds you most of a stolen car: Oakland Raiders (26%)
  • Which NFL team reminds you most of a Humvee: Chicago Bears (10.3%)

Among other findings, roughly 75% of NFL fans think legalized online sports gambling is either a great idea, or they feel it’s not a big deal. The National Anthem issue is completely split, with roughly 50% of those polled saying the players should express how they feel, and another 50% saying President Trump should stay out of the issue. Lastly, roughly 25% said that vehicle subscription services are a great idea; 28% said it’s a good idea but not something they would use; and 39% weren’t familiar with a vehicle subscription service.

“Despite the reported falling numbers of ‘diehard” fans, the return of football is always a special time of year for millions,” said Scot Hall, Executive Vice President of Swapalease.com. “And since tailgating remains a significant part of the football experience, cars and trucks will forever be linked to the sport, especially since automotive advertising is now as much a part of Super Bowl Sunday.”
