How fun Manny!  Thank you so very much for the trip down memory lane.  I especially liked the segment on the Edsel.  I hadn't thought about it in years, but back in 1960 when I was a freshman in HS, I lived an unbelievably cool teenage fantasy when I picked out who I thought was the best looking girl in our school (a little blonde junior who was so cute it hurt to look at her) and promptly fell in love.  After I began phoning her, initially not telling her who I was, she encouraged me to identify myself which I finally did.  Through the coming months we'd meet between classes and after school, gradually building a friendship.

When summer arrived, my interest waned a bit, but she "kicked it back up" when we met in a neighborhood park one night where, after I asked if it would be OK, she gave me my first "lover's" kiss.  We continued our clandestine "affair" throughout the 1st half of my sophomore year because she already had a boyfriend (the hot ones always did), and we met in secret when he went to work and gave her his car to use.  It was a 1958 white Citation convertible his parents had given him and its front seat was the site of my virginity "removal."  (Its black leather seating was the perfect background for an indelible image of her flawless young body.)

Considering I was an average looking 14 year old sophomore and she was a "killer" 17 year old senior, I was destined for the pain of a broken heart. Fortunately, I found a new love (a blonde vintage Fender Telecaster guitar; the first of many) that never returned my affection, but presented countless opportunities for me to travel around the midwest for the next 11 years and meet beautiful young ladies who did.  This probably explains why looking at a '58 Edsel can damned near give me "wood."
