Our customer based sales referral program seems to be a little stale. I am looking for some fresh ideas to put some spark back into our program. Does anyone have a program they are using that they feel has been successful in getting customers to produce good referrals??

I know of one store that I used to work at that would get the local schools involved. Salespeople and Service Writers would spend a part of the day in some of the area schools actively participating (i.e. reading to school children, tutoring students, etc) with the community. The dealer, in turn, would also donate up to $100 of every vehicle sale back to the school, to be used for school supplies and technology upgrades, like computers. It made the parents of these kids proud to do business locally, because the local business community was giving back.

On a personal note, it amazes me that most dealerships are members of their local Chamber of Commerce, but in the one that I happened to be involved with, I was the ONLY representative of a local dealership that ever made face time at the meetings. After attending a few meetings, I was picking up at least 2-3 deals per month from a member of the Chamber or from one of their referrals.
