Remember the 80′s and 90′s? Everyone in business then was so gungho. To build a business then you had to be great on the phone making cold calls, excellent at booking appointments, great at doing sales presentations, overcoming objections and using any one of the 17 closes you had rehearsed.

Some people in business actually enjoyed the thrill of the hunt.

They loved chasing down their potential new clients and finally overpowering them into saying yes.
That was when being the HUNTER was a smart way to build business. It actually worked especially for those who enjoyed this approach to business.

The question is … does this approach still work today?

More importantly should you be building your business with the HUNTER approach or not as we head rapidly towards 2009?

The hunter approach uses what I call PUSH marketing. It is where you are pushing you and your business out into the marketplace. Back in the 70′s, 80′s and 90′s the marketplace was less crowded. It was easier then to get the ATTENTION of your target market.

So is that still true today?

Not at all … today it is harder than ever to get the ATTENTION of your target market. It is largely due to technology and lower barriers to entry. There is more competition than ever before competing for the attention of your target market. If you try and gain the attention of your target market through PUSH marketing you will push them away not attract them to you.

Here is why …

People hate being SOLD to!

That’s right … the vast majority of people have become immune to sales messages. They dislike pushy sales people and are fully aware of all of the sales type techniques that you may use.

In recent years there has been a global shift in consciousness. People have different expectations today. The last thing they want is to be forced into a decision by some pushy sales person using cannedc techniques.

Now here is the good news …

While people hate being sold to they will readily sell themselves when you have the right marketing system in place.

You might want to read that last line again.

Your prospective clients will readily sell themselves on using you and your products / service if you have the right marketing system in place. This includes the steps you take to ATTRACT your target market to you, the irresistible offer you make to them, the steps involved in your marketing funnel, how you create top of mind awareness and most importantly hpw you lead them to enquire about your products / services.

When you have the right system in place you shift from the HUNTER to the HUNTED!

Consider the psychology behind this. If you have people voluntarily entering your marketing funnel because you designed the ideal irresistible offer for them, they then receive various points of contact from you that are all value added, and they start to sell themselves on why you may be the SOLUTION to their PROBLEM, and finally they request a consultation with you to find out more.

Now they are chasing you rather than you chasing them.

Think about the psychology of this. With the right Attraction Marketing System in place you now have your prospective clients coming to you requesting a consultation … and here is the best bit … they are coming to you pre-sold!

So how do you set up an Attraction Marketing System?

Well there are really a couple of key elements that you need in place. These are:

  • A clearly defined target market
  • Visibility strategies to get ATTENTION of your target market
  • The right positioning within that target market
  • An irresistible offer that leads them into your permission marketing database
  • The right Marketing Funnel
  • TOMA System – Top Of Mind Awareness
  • Sell-U-Cation – You need to understand how to have them sell themselves
  • Consultation Request

When you build your marketing system around these key elements you will find that you switch from the hunter to the hunted. This is what I do all day with my coaching and consulting clients.
