As I travel around North America setting up Business development centers for dealerships I get asked the following question quite often. How can we convince our current sales team to reach out to more customers and enlist them to help the Business Development Center?

The answer is quite simple really, convince them that in order to make a great living and "work less" over time they need to build their business but doing the right things every day. The retail automotive business is changing as is every other retail business these days. With services like True Car, and more and more tools on the Internet for customers to limit or reduce their exposure to the car dealership sales floor service is becoming more and more important.

In oredr to maximize your marketing, drive traffic for your sales and service department and sell and service more vehicles your Sales and service team needs to proactively reach out to their past, current and future customers every day. The days of waiting for that customer to show up are over.

The question is what is your sales team saying on the phone? How ofter are they picking up the phone each day? What types of messages are they leaving when they hit the answering machine? The most important question however is what level of daily activity are your Sales and Service Managers insisting on.

Without a minimum activity level, a game plan and enforcement of that game plan what results can you realistically expect from your team. In 2012 your dealership and it's Sales, Service and Part teams need to make things happen. Customers have more and more choices these days and the level of service, and the ability to get in front of more customers is the only way you will grow your business.
