Share of U.S. buyers shying away from imports rises, J.D. Power says

After reading the Jan 26th Auto News article about US buyers shying away from imports,I'd like to add my 2 cents to why it's happening. Back in the 70's there was a book written on business in the furture and the baby boomers. The basics of the book said follow the bulk of the population and you'll make money. Boy how true that has turned out. Thus the reason why the imports of Toyota,Honda and Nissan emerged. The japanese stock market was at 36000 they had a product that was well built and cheap. They had dealers selling everything they could get at over MSRP and the vehicles lasted. Here comes the baby boomers and her comes Jimmy Carter and high gas prices. The roll is on. The boomers kept buying. They kept lasting and a love afffair was on. Then the greed set in. The Imports decided to raise prices multiple times after mulitple times. Then the imports wanted more of the dealers. They cut the margins. Then they demanded big stores that cost the dealer a fortune. Not once but every 5-10 years. Then JD powers gets involved and the imports demand better CSI at a higher price. But everything too good comes to an end. The boomers are getting grey and there pocket books tighter. A disaster in japan. A yen out of wack. Bad publicity for toyota on crashes. More demands from the factorys for dealer monies for factory advertising. Boomers tired of buying the same brand year after year. The Big 2 get a bail out and Ford has a genuis in Allen. Now the Yen is against the imports and the big 3 are getting better built cars to the showroom. The car buyers are now not boomers but younger buyers that have a different opinion. So the game is on. The Big 3 showing great gains and great product to a different age group. Will the big 3 go the way of the Imports and demand bigger newer facilities. Will they cut the dealers margins. Basically with the mojo there way will they screw up there chance to hold on and grow or will they become arrogant like the imports. Its a new era and a new time. And now time will tell.
