Hi Everyone,

I would love to hear from those of you with any experience working for a Chevy dealership (actually ANY make) that uses either Dealer.com or Cobalt. My dealership is in the process of totally re-working our online presence, and I would greatly appreciate any feedback or advice.

Have a wonderful day!

Hi Stephanie,
I have lots of experience with both and Dealer.com is by far superior. They do cost a little more but you so won't regret the decision. I do not wish to speak negativly about any company so I will leave it at that:)

Hi Steph!

Thank you so much for your response! I have been leaning towards Dealer.com myself, but I really value fellow professional's opinions. If I have any questions, would you mind if I gave you a quick call?

Hi Stephanie,

I'm not sure how far along your dealership is in your search for a website, but I've had a few dealers have good luck working with Jerry Salerno at eCarList. From what I've heard, pricing is pretty competitive with Dealer.com and others, and the results speak for themselves, with more positive traffic to their sites.

Their website is www.ecarlist.com, and Jerry's direct line is 214-722-8206.

Good luck!

Stephanie,

Dealer.com has been great for us. They have delivered everything they promised and more. I believe we are one of the more demanding groups they serve and they work hard to please us. They stay out ahead of you with technology and and spend great resources making sure they have a great product. Their "open architecture" allows you to make it anything you want it to be...or, it's great right out of the box...your choice...... and I also have a Cobalt site, it is worth about what we pay for it in my opinion, It is free.

Terry,
I have found DDC sites to be highly customizable, ours looks like no other. As I look over your list of "advantages" for the DealerPeak sites, I believe DDC offers each of the items listed, I have most. As to support, they have done a very good job for us. Volume has many advantages too. I would suspect that most of the problems encountered by me have already been dealt with many times over and perhaps that is why I get answers and results quickly from Dealer.com. I have enjoyed a great relationship with them and am pleased with their platform(s) and performance.

The problem with those two, you will look like the dealer down the road and your customer surrpoert suffers because of the mass of dealers they are trying to service.
With most any dealer website vendor you’re going to get the basics: new and used inventory, photos, a new car configurator, finance and service forms and a “cookie cutter” design from their library of templates. That’s probably fine if your dealership doesn’t care that much about the Internet. For those of you who do, you will want to take a look at what a “Highly Evolved” website does. A DealerPeak Website.
Does your current site do this?

* Pro-actively engage visitors on your site in real-time.

* Self Updates with the latest Regional Manufacture Incentives.

* Allow visitors to Save Vehicles and get notified when new
Inventory Arrives.

* Allow visitors to track their vehicle service history.

* Display specific vehicle recommendations and comments
from your sales team.

* Website remembers the users payment preferences while
searching inventory.

* One Click lead generation

Dealer.com is vastly superior to Cobalt. However, check out TK Carsites as well. Cobalt has all but collapsed as a credible website provider. Now that they are part of ADP it will get even worse with what they provide in the website itself and the terrible service they provide. I don't know any dealers out there that have any confidence in Cobalt. They are the dinosaurs of automotive website providers.
None of the above. Hi, Craig Darling and I have worked at three of the largest Chevrolet dealerships in Arizona as a fleet and internet manager (1985-2003) and for a mega dealer as the Sales director (2003-2007).

The internet is a simple thing, you just need some tools that are inexpensive.

Have a site built and maintained that can encompass your entire store. Have Go-Daddy or someone else build it and host the site. I need not be to flashy. Make it easy to nvigate. (thousand bucks or so and cheap to host)
Purchase a CRM. They can be purchased for under 500 bucks and maintained for about 50 or less monthly. These CRM's are also good for viral prospecting. Here is mine: http://www.cwdarling.com

Have your entire sales force, service writers and parts sales people build and maintain a facebook or linked in page.

Have the social media pages link to the blog postings, feature specials in each department and generally be relevant for your client base.

Rev up a digital marketing campaign that only focuses on clients that may be looking for your product. I don't mean purchasing keywords, I am talking about ads that appear on Facebook when people talk about cars, repairs or payments. Ads that appear on Popular Mechanics if your powertrains are featured or on AutoWeek when they talk about the silverado... That sort of thing. ( http://www.adinhand.mobi )

If you take some of these steps you can eliminate the big expence of Cobalt or Dealer.com or BZ, eliminate the need to pay for internet lead providers and best of all save the money spent on Television, Radio or Newspaper. The change from traditional marketing is here, you can not stop it.. better get on for the ride.

Either way you go... I wish you all the best. I know that it is hard for a dealership to cover their bottom line and return to profitability, these things will help. Craig Darling Chevrolet Hall of Fame Saleperson.
