I recently wrote an article, Creating an Internet Presence that went seriously viral. In fact you will see in this diagram that it is the top of the google search of 18,000,000 searches of similar name.  Clearly many people starting a business will search the words creating an internet presence.

So my question to all of you why does my article go to #1 position out of 18,600,000.  Not bad for a car salesman.   And someone suggested this wasn't my forte.

Love to hear your thoughts and comments.

Hi Grant,

Congratulations for mastering SEO without knowing it. There are so many people struggling and turning upside down their minds to get their own companies get on the top of the list, that would be totally anoyed knowing about your results.

The very first key to that success y a total match of the word from the title, an also from the content. The first rule in SEM when using AdWords, is to place as keywords of your page what people would introduce in their searches, not wat you want people to look for. Second rule is to use minimun 2-3 words for keywords. It's worthless to try to be positioned first on "cars" cause that's so general, no one wants to be positioned really the fist among more than 800 million results. Those selected 2-3 words (people will try to reduce their search to that, Internet users like to go fast and don't think too much) should match their intention of search and mainly starting with verbs.
Of course Huffington Post has millions of visits and that's one thing Google values a lot for positioning. In fact, according to Alexa's Ranking Huffington Post is 37th in the US rank, and 150th in the whole world.
The amount of people who visits that page, compared to the rest of results, adds also many points. The better positioned it is, the more visits that will receive.
No matter what keywords people use, you'll be in first page.
I tried with "create internet presence" making the search from Spain, and there were you third on the list.

But whatch out for key searches like the one below: Effective Internet Presence, they can steal you the users click, and if you search on that, you don't appear even in the second page, even if you had 2 out of three words. Terms like 'effective', 'eficient' are quite attractive to people's eye-scanner.

You should also thank Huffington Post for doing their homework rigth using your name on the title of the page. That's a nice detail from them.
So congratulations for succeeding with A+ this intensive SEO course.

Best regards,

Francisco
Grant, two reasons I can think of - 1) name recognition, 2) content - SEO tags

you sure you didn't just hire Pasch to do this for you? Just Kidding!

seriously...

The fact that it was on Huffington post (lots of views) definitely had a big impact. There are pages on lesser known sites with the same keywords in almost top position that don't even make it to page one.

This is also a good reminder that when creating something for SEO purposes, it's best to put it somewhere that has visitors for other reasons, like your company website or a blog that you keep up with and have multiple posts on. Google is all about credibility of not only the content, but also the site it is on.
