Google+ Local Marketing Tip By Brian Pasch

Have you ever wondered where Google gets some of the photos that is uses to display on Google+ Local?

When business listings were managed under "Google Places," it was very common for a dealer to call me in a panic because unprofessional photos were showing on their places page.

I recently received some clarification on this matter, and the solution requires another process that dealers should put into place.

Dealers will now need to update their Google+ Local directory listing on a regular basis.

Refresh Content Pages on a Weekly Basis

Here is what I recommend:

  • Refreshing pages weekly (adding/changing content or simply logging in and hitting 'edit' and then 'submit' (without making changes) will tell Google that the business owner is keeping the content on the page fresh.
  • Refreshing pages weekly will help to ensure user generated content does not appear on the Google+ Local page.
  • Make sure you click on the "Photos" button and maximize the visual content.
  • You can add 5 photos and 5 videos; use ALL of these marketing opportunities.

Don't Get Stale

You may have thought that Google+ Local was a "set it and forget it" advertising tool, but that is not the case.  For many dealers, they are looking at their Google+ Local listing on a regular basis anyway to review the comments and reviews that were posted.

So now, when your team is reviewing the listing, consider:

  • Adding a recent delivery photo with happy customers smiling in front of their vehicle.
  • Add a recent customer testimonial video or promotional video.
  • Update the 30-day special text that appears on the listing.
  • Consider updating your coupon offer.

By keeping your Google+ Local up to date, your are signaling to Google+ that the content is accurate and fresh.  That is a good investment.
