You Don't Get The Gold For Just Showing Up

Every time they come on I'm drawn in.  I root for people in sports I either have never seen before or still don't understand.  But, my favorite part of the Olympics is when they share the journey that each athlete had to make to get there.  When they share how obstacles had to be overcome, sacrifices had to be made, and most importantly, goals that had to be set.  When one hears the stories of these special athletes, it's difficult to complain about where you are in your life.

Track and field is one of my favorite examples of what some people are willing to do to be successful at something.  The one that amazes me is the 100 meter race for both men and women.  This race determines who will be the world's fastest man and woman.  It's over in about 10 seconds.  Hundredths of a second determine the Gold, Silver and Bronze.  And only the Gold gets the glory.  To see a human able to gain that much speed in such a short time is astounding.  But, how does one get that fast?

While there certainly has to be some natural ability, there are countless hours of training involved.  These men and women train for years, decades even.  They work on each phase of a 10 second race.  Spending hours on just the start - getting off at the sound of the gun.  Visualizing each step of the race before it actually happens.  Running hundreds and thousands of races to stay at your very best.

ALL THAT WORK FOR 10 SECONDS!

What if you thought like an Olympian?  Suppose you planned the next four years of your career.  Whether you're a sales person, a manager, or even a dealer, have a plan to achieve the GOLD!  Imagine what could happen if each and every step of the process was planned to perfection and executed with one focus - to give your customers a Gold Medal Performance.  What would you imagine profits would be like?  How do you feel customers would react?  More importantly, what would it mean for you personally and financially?

None of the athletes get a thing for just being at the Olympics.  Just because they're the nicest, or the most dedicated, or even if they practiced the hardest.  To win, they have to compete.  So is it with your dealership.  Practice and training are great, but if management ignores it to continue doing what they've always done, the results won't win you a thing.  To play as a team, you must commit as a team, train as a team and compete as a team.  Do that and you can win as a team.

Set your sights on Gold and make the commitment to get there.
