How do we get graduates from our training class that are women, hired?

In my last recruiting campaign I interviewed 43 applicants over 2 days. 15 of the applicants were women. 7 showed up for class and 3 graduated. The dealership hired none of the women. 1 woman was a seasoned real estate veteran, 1 was a UCLA graduate and 1 was a young woman who had worked at a dealership before as a receptionist and knew what the job entailed and wanted to sell cars very badly. I thought all these women were great canidates to become successful salespeople. This dealership and most dealerships really frown on hiring women. What can we do as trainers, to help get these women hired as I am sure we are all getting a lot of women to apply for these jobs. Any suggestions?

Ray, thank you for bringing this to light!  This is still happening...Sadly...How many times have you heard "NO skirts!"  Please read my discussion here, Men are from Cars, Women are from Genius... This is what I am referring to.  Unfortunately, for one reason or another, dealers still refrain from hiring women for ALL positions!

Ask them why, what their "fears' are?

ask them to stand on their showroom and look back in their customer service area for one hour and see what % of their clients are female.....then tell them to do the math!

Nada says that females out sell male counterparts by 22 vehicles a year on average!

Had the same problem at a dealership not wanting people over 40, and then they ask why they can't keep anyone. KIDS MOVE AROUND!

Who says the good old boy net work is a thing of the past.

One manager told me he was afraid that he might let the wrong word slip, and he meant slip out with a female in the room who could call employee relations and cost him his job which is why he will not take women, but legally he has 10 OTHER REASOND

Its just crazy, I had a dealer take the 5 women and none of the guys..but you are so right why. I don't think its the dealer

but the managers on the floor it is their attitude that stop the woman from being hired. If the owner really knew the truth???

At one time, 2/3 of all Saturn buyers were women. I wonder what the highest are today.
