Someone asked me about adding a third team at a dealership on Facebook and this is my revised solution:

Do 5! The way I would do it is to have all your sales people work 3 straight days the whole day, then have 2 straight off. Have 5 rotations, but have team dealership instead! If you have a busy day, someone can take another day off, then come in on the busy day with prior permission. This is not just a Gen Y trend, but nurses do similar things at times. This way your workers can be better rested, have better routines, have a better life away from home, and better performance. Nobody loses. Don't let the overtime of 8 hours a day fool you, your people are the most important asset, so let them be the best they can be. (Note that California also has a daily overtime law over 8 hours a day.) There is no need for a weekly meeting, but do training instead.

Great idea, fresh staff achieve more and make less mistakes. It increase morale and staff retention

great idea how do I bring this up to my Manager

Lawrence,

The best way to do this is to type it up on a Word Document and then show the value step by step. Break down each one into a paragraph to show the value.

Note that this similar rotation is done by nurses, Wal-Mart Assistant Managers, and the concept is based on benchmarking. This is finding the best practices of all businesses and apply them to your business.

Also say on the paper as smoothly as you can based on their personalities that you don't buy into this doesn't apply to this industry and don't be afraid to say so on the paper of challenging their limiting beliefs. If they say they can't do this, just make them realize that you are competing for the best workers in each company and industry, not just within the automotive industry. If they are worth keeping, they are worth keeping. You will have to defend your position at times, but it's conflict and it's worth going for at the good of the dealership. Show that this is for them as well.

It increases profitability while reducing costs. Everybody wins in this case, but some managers will have to get used to this. It's the process that makes the people better, your most important asset.

You will have slow times, but this is the time to learn the vehicles, prepare plans, and do follow-ups.

Could you please give more details of how this would work? That is how the schedules and rotations themselves would look.

Greg,

There would be a total of five groups and you work the whole day or you are off.

Day 1 ABC work when DE are off

Day 2 BCD work when EA are off

Day 3 CDE work wehn AB are off

Day 4 DEA work when BC are off

Day 5 EAB work when CD are off

Repeat this exact schedule every 5 days.
