Have you ever heard the statement that “Life begins outside of the comfort zone?”

The Comfort Zone is certainly a place that beckons us all at one time or another.  Resisting the allure of resting on past or current success is not that easy at times, and when we are doing okay and the pressure is off it can be easy to give in and put the ship in cruise control. This is especially true if we have been at it for a while and may feel like we are already at the top of our game.

Indeed you may have come a long way from where you were when you first began your career in this business.  You may be the top Salesperson in the Dealership or a Manager or Owner who has had a consistent run of success for quite some time.  Believe it or not, this is the time when you are most susceptible to the call of the Comfort Zone.

Most of us like to achieve as much as we can in life, but at the same time we enjoy occasions for fun and relaxation, and a break now and then keeps us primed and ready to go when we need to put the pedal to the metal.  Not many of us are like John D. Rockefeller, who soon after becoming the richest man in the world was asked how much money he needed to be satisfied,  to which he replied, “Just a little more.”

Just as we do not want to be overcome by the Comfort Zone, we also need to recognize the value of regular time away from work to regenerate our minds and bodies so we can enjoy the fruits of our labor with the people we love.

In all of life I believe that balance is the key to success.  Learning to know when to hold ‘em and when to fold ‘em can go a long way toward keeping the harmony and balance so necessary for a healthy, meaningful and productive life;  Especially if we have a family that depends upon us for the things that make life productive and enjoyable.

Consistency is the key to keeping the Comfort Zone at bay.  When we manage our life with a balanced approach to achieving our goals we have a much better chance for success.  Let’s face it, in our business we are often tempted to take a break at the beginning of each new month and then push hard to reach our goals as that month comes to a close.

How much better it is to keep a consistent pace throughout the month and then use whatever excess energy we have to reach for even higher numbers at the end of the month.  But for most of us that rarely happens and the cycle of pushing harder at the end of the month is more of a survival method than a step to greater results and higher achievements.

You can change that for yourself no matter what others decide to do.  By breaking from the habit of‘doing things the way we have always done it’ you can ensure yourself an escape from the Comfort Zone and stay on pace for new and exciting growth in your business.

Set your goals high and make a plan for what you need to do each day to achieve them.  If you reach them in the middle of the month, do not use that as an excuse to quit pressing harder and laying up.  Instead ramp up your efforts and make it the greatest month yet.
