New to car sales and struggling with the winter

Its winter time and business is slower than normal I haven't been doing my normal 8-12 cars a month. Never had to be able to drum up my own business before and I'm struggling with making calls and getting people in. Looking for other ideas to help me be a master of my craft. I recognize that I am having a problem and am looking for advice as to how to overcome this. I'm new to this site so I don't know anyone. Any help would greatly be appreciated. it is my goal to become one of the greats and to be able to pass my knowledge onto others as it has been passed on to me. Thank you

Again I would like to thank everyone for there assistance and information the things I have learned have already started to make a difference. Not only in my business but in my attitude as well. I feel more confident and also more organized. There are still a few of you I am trying to get some extra time to get back to and I apologize for not getting back to you sooner.

Actually winter in the car business is a great opportunity.  The number of ups go down.  But the quality of the ups goes up.  Everyone who comes in, basically is in need status, not want status.  They are not happy to be there and the quicker they can end the pain, the better.  Where your opportunity is to understand this and help the customer through the process, which they really don't know how to and really don't want to.

Work the service drive at least two days a week.  Talk to the people who leave their vehicles, not wait for them.

Provide an incentive for the service advisors to let you know when people have to spend over $250.00 on repairs.  Never a better time to appraise their vehicle and have some information when they come in to pick up the vehicle.

Make sure you are focused and have set your goals and push yourself and you may end up being salesperson of the month.

Thanks for the replies. I can see this issue that I have with inadequately being proficient on the phone is something I'm going to have to tackle head on.its not that I'm unable to talk on the phone it's more of a not knowing what to say. I do better face to face then I do on the phone.I guess I just have to find a way to put my energy and positive emotion into words instead of visually animated.

Most of your customers in the winter are in the service department. Work your waiting room. Find out what they are driving and offer to put them in a new car for the same payment. Offering free appraisals can also be an effective way of beginning a relationship.
