Vince Lombardi was put in charge of turning around the Green Bay Packers, he started by leading, inspiring and motivating his players. But at one point he was not getting what he wanted out of his players so he gathered them all around in a circle and simply stated these words. "This gentlemen is a football" this is the field and i am the coach and you are the players! then he preceeded to explain the BASICS of the game.

Sometimes we get caught up in training all of the special parts of the sale, such as word tracks to handle price and payment as well as overcoming the trade. When alot of the fires we create can be handled along the way if we just follow the basics. Remember, you cannot close someone who has not bought into the idea that what they are getting has VALUE! Building value in your product, Dealership and yourself is a huge step in getting what you are ultimatley here to get... a CUSTOMER FOR LIFE.

The military even has BASIC training, the Navy Seals go through a grueling training program because they have to be methodical, precise, and agile or they end up DEAD! There are no quick fixes for the automotive industry, the so called one-price selling system doesn't work, you still have to SELL the product, you and the dealership! We have to gather the troops and take a step back and get the Basics and the rest will come,

Amen!  The deal cannot be closed until it is properly opened.  The problem, sales people want the cure all approach to selling cars.  Instead of focusing on 90% of the customers with a sound sales approach, we want to practice the 10% by attempting to overcome every objection.  I say "90-10" rule.  90% of the time it will go the way you want it with sound selling skills and techniques.  10% of the time...it won't!  Don't drill for the 10% but become proficient with the 90%.  When we hear the word basic, we assume it means simple.  Basic training for the military isn't simple.  Basic training instills the required habits for survival.  Excellent post!  Only wish more salespeople and their managers read this...
