This has been an incredible year in many ways for our family. It has also been one of the most challenging as I nearly drowned in Lake Erie. I haven’t shared that experience with many folks however, today sharing some lessons learned might be valuable.
My first lesson was the importance of wearing a life jacket. Our boat anchor came loose and was floating out into the lake so I started swimming after it without thinking about anything except reaching the boat. It became apparent reaching the boat was going to be challenging and I might not make it. Soon after that realization, I reached total exhaustion. My brain felt like it was going to explode and I knew today might be the day I die. My thoughts turned to prayers and instead of praying to reach the boat it was just “one more stroke”. I was constantly saying to myself “I am not going to die today”. I finally did reach the boat however had no strength to do anything but hang on for a while. Finally, I reached the ladder and pulled myself onto the boat just lying there. Although I couldn’t function well and the pain in my brain continued, I didn’t go to the emergency room. I felt that surviving would be the end of it. The next week every night I would wake up around 3 o’clock with intense pain in my brain-penetrating into my back. I ended up in the emergency room facing the damage from the trauma head-on. After a series of brain scans, therapy, and medication which has continued on until this month, I can finally say my challenge is ending from this event.
I’ve learned that to face your issues isn’t an option and the quicker you do that the better the result. My passion for life and helping others has intensified dramatically. I’ve slowed down to notice a spectacular sunrise or sunset and loving everyone around me. Words can’t express the joy I receive in helping dealerships do better in their fixed operations. To watch their entire team grow and improve their quality of life means the world to me. To add a new company Margin Plus that helps dealerships get retail pricing on warranty repairs brings an incredible joy into my life. Our company is so excited to have invested our time and developed the software to maximize the filing for dealerships to take advantage of state laws. We have survived 2018 and know next year will be our best ever.
