Yesterday I am in a local Dealership recruiting for the Dealership and one of the people I am interviewing is from another like dealership in the suburban area.  He was there for 30 days and given no training.  Just told to get out and sell some cars.  Stumbling at best he sold four cars.  He saw this Dealerships ad by Automax and decided to set up an interview because we offer training.  Needless to say he will be here this week for training.  This gentleman knows he can sell cars and has such a desire to really learn the business.
Why in this day  would a Dealer waste their time and not train or better yet have Automax Training and Recruiting do the job.

I got in trouble one time for saying this, but it seems appropriate here for people like him. "Don't let a bad manager make you into a bad salesperson."

Gail, Aren't we all scratching our head on this one?

Six years ago, I very aggressively attempted to buy the dealership and franchise at the dealership I was working.  You know what my biggest fear was?  Not the lack of capital, not the down turn of the economy!  My biggest fear was that my employees would not be representing the dealership, with the face and the voice of how I wanted it perceived!  Knowing you cannot be in 50 places at once, training your staff and training them to consistent processess in the most vital responsibility of the dealer.

And because of human nature, training cannot be an event, but an on-going process!

Sadly, this does not surprise me. I think our industry has lost a lot of talent over the years – simply because there was no training in place – and leaders that failed to impress upon those who look to them for guidance the importance of ongoing training. Many feel that "training" is something that is completed – instead of instilling in them the desire for continuous improvement and a thirst for personal development. Quick question... When was the last time you invested in a book, or an audio program for those on your team?

30 minutes a day......1800 seconds......2 1/2 hrs a week....can you even imagine how professional salespeople could be?.....
I am going to be at a hotel in Atlanta this week, I am going to ask each hotel employee I meet no matter their position how much training they received prior to even being able to look at a client/customer...

...Fast food chains have 10 times the training we give at most places!!!!!

I don't understand either, when I train I work in training NEVER ends and bring up current examples to work into the presentations. I also bring up our powerful salesstuds.com site where they can continuing training after I leave just in case they get "THAT MANAGER"

and the good news for him is he is coming to Automax training in the morning.  No chance here for a bad salesperson.

With the turnover in management over the last couuple of years there has been increased promotion of individuals without having the benefit of full training themselves.  These new to the position managers REALLY need support and development and therefore will be better equipped to lead their teams.

Its because they are tooooooo busy selling cars! Duh. At least that's the reason my 1st manager told me. Or they say"no one trained me when I got started " . Or,Cost to much is the next one. How much does it cost not to? There is no excuse for not training your people. The old belief of throw it against the wall to see what sticks is killing your salespeople, dealership and clients.

Yes gail you are right about i was doing a training class in delaware not to long ago and i had a guy tell me...thanks automax for training me ...i learned more in two and a half days than i learned in two and a half years at university of delaware...also another said i ve sold cars for two years and learned more with automax training than i did at the dealer for 2 years......So dont forget ...people are expecting to bve trained!
