Stop half-assing it and expecting a good return

Over the years I've seen so many friends start a new project, then do it half-assed and bail on it, only to say "that just didn't work for us".

Sometimes the products they bought were crap, but sometimes, (many times), they didn't really commit.

This is why I was so pleased to see the good folks at Don Seelye Ford Kia in Kalamazoo going BALLS OUT WITH THEIR SMS CAMPAIGN!

They have their info on their online overlays on Cars.com, Autotrader & their Website but…

Here's a chance to try something

Everyone wants to sell more cars but when sales are down, we're not as quick to spend money to try out those other products that we're interested in.

In an effort to help you "take a chance" I'm going to make an offer that is ONLY GOOD UNTIL FRIDAY for any interested dealer to try AutoCapture at your dealership for just $99. We realize that trying something new is scary so we're reducing the risk to ridiculous so that it's a no-brainer for you. Best of all, you'll get that $99 rate for…

The Next Big Thing for 2013 isn't what you think

The next big thing for 2013 may not be what you think. Before I tell you exactly what it is that will grow your business exponentially this year, I want to recap a few of the "big things" that the 'experts' told us we had to focus on over the past few years.

REMOVE THE CLUTTER

A few years back, all of the 'experts' in automotive internet marketing said that we absolutely, positively, needed to eliminate pop ups on our websites because they interfere with the shopping…

You don't care if they 'Like' you on Facebook

Let's face it, Facebook advertising has been a bit of an enigma for Automotive Dealers and it has come with a lot of trial and error.

Most dealerships offer some sort of contest or offer for people who 'Like' their page but are we really getting any sales conversion from this?

I hear a few folks that swear they've sold cars because of their Facebook following, and to them I say congratulations! But I wonder how much time was invested, and if the return was really worth…

Why make it harder than it is?

As 2012 is coming to a close I have been browsing through a ton of 2012 blog posts from industry experts and I have to say...in true Scrooge fashion...'bah humbug!

All year long so many people have been complicating the sales process for dealers. Some...(many) have been hawking technology products that are supposed to be the latest and greatest this or that but really they are just neat looking tools that add a step to the sales process.

I've seen a million and…

Is your dealer afraid of technology or just given bad information?

Everyone knows that text messaging is the #1 way that people communicate and it's easy to understand why since text messaging is so simple. While it sounds enticing to get a text message campaign started, it's extremely important to make sure that your doing it correctly for two reasons.
First and foremost, thou want to create a quality experience…

So many sales people suck...at asking questions

I get the privilege of hearing sales people every day when they're talking to customers. Whether it's folks in a dealership, or folks at a restaurant during lunch; EVERYONE IS SELLING SOMETHING!

The problem is, most people just flat suck at selling. Don't get me wrong, there are some really fantastic sales professionals out there but just because your title says "Sales _______" it doesn't mean that you know how to sell.

Many salespeople confuse 'telling' with…

Beef up your marketing with these free & low cost 'smarketing' tips

There are a million ways to market your business thanks to the internet and it's pretty hard to sort through all of the advertising messages and find the right medium for your business.

Often times, we use the 'trial and error' method to figure out what type of advertising is really going to be beneficial but let's face it, years of trial and error means a ton of money being spent on things that don't work and it begins to feel like just when we find our perfect…

Glowing Reviews? Who needs 'em!

What happened to actually EARNING a great review. I got an email from a company today that offers their reputation management company that will post reviews, to my clients, that I FABRICATE for just $97/mo. WOW! How terrible is that?!? If you treat a customer well, you earn the right to ask them for their business. Reviews should be earned by providing good service to a client. Not just because it's BS to future customers though; bogus reviews prevent you from making ourselves look in…

Quotes to help you close more sales

"You miss 100% of the shots you don't take" Wayne Gretzky

For some reason, I'm on a Wayne Gretzky Quote kick this week. At first this seemed weird to me since I'm not a hockey fan, but then I realized why I love Wayne's quotes:

1. He is a champion, and will be remembered as one for the rest of his life.

2. His quotes transcend hockey and are really relevant in sales.

3. My middle name is Wayne and this obviously means we have some sort connection. (this one may be…

F&%$ Working Harder!

Years ago I was taught that there is a way to grow business in the Auto Industry that didn't require hefty ad budgets, didn't require long hours and didn't require a bunch of 'hard work'.
That got me thinking about many of my friends in dealerships RIGHT NOW who are still pounding out 60-70 hour weeks, working bell to bell and trying to figure out something new to increase sales this month and next month, they start at zero again and they're just as frantic.
Excuse my…

Why salespeople suck (it's not what you think)

Where have all the cowboys gone?

That was a great song from the ninety’s right? Well maybe not such a great song but it was the song played over and over and over. For some reason on my way to the dentist this morning this song popped in my head because I’ve really been wrestling with the fact that the cowboy…

Your CRM and Advertising aren't helping...just so you know

As I’ve been connecting with dealers over the past six years I have noticed a trend that few people truly address.

Technology is killing the car business. Your CRM hasn’t made you more money than you made 10 years ago and neither has your current advertising.

Whew…that was harder than I thought.

Before you start ranting about all the ways that your CRM helps and all the reasons that advertisers are bleeding you dry, let me just say this: it’s not technology’s fault and…

You're not a leader unless someone wants to follow you

The boss drives men, the leader coaches them. The boss depends upon authority, the leader depends on goodwill. The boss inspires fear, the leader inspires enthusiam. The boss says "I", while the leader says, "We". The boss fixes the blame for the breakdown, while the leader fixes the breakdown. The boss knows how its done, while the leader show's how. The boss says, "Go." and the leader says, "Let's Go."

A friend of mine posted this little quote on his Facebook and I wanted…
