I recently received a solicitation from a fairly well known someone I won't name regarding a program to market to dealerships. I reviewed it and wasn't interested. Apparently that makes me a "loser".

 

Within 2 days of the offering which was apparently made to many people (there was an attachment with names) among them was a name I knew. It was a former prominent dealer featured in Automotive News front page articles in the past. A blanket email was sent out to all that had not responded to the offer. I was astounded by the message and asked that I be removed his list as quickly and completely as possible.

 

If he worked for me in any capacity that relationship would have been severed immediately regardless of to whom words like these were directed. If I was his client and became aware of this type of sales technique that relationship would be severed also. His MUST be a highly dysfunctional organization.

 

What would your response have been to this:

WOW, that's really sad!  I can't say I blame you for excluding yourself.

 

Now to guess who wrote that.  I have a few suspects.

 

 

Yeah it's pretty arrogant and an actual intended insult. I believe everyone would agree that it was directly (idiot, loser) focused. He has the idea that if you insult someone in that way they would cave in and sign up. Unbelievable that guys like that are tolerated in any business.

 

I can tell you it is not the guy that is the subject of your recent "pompous" thread.

Wow... Just Wow... That's not a close, that's an insult!

You would be surprised by who these people are. Several well respected, well known persons in the industry. I've seen the 200 to 500% improvement claim psted verbatim on this site, minus the insults. I guess the insults come later.

 

I didn't get contacted as a result of any of these postings, I received a direct email from someone soliciting me to take a look. I did, wasn't interested and received the message that was sent to apparently all the non interested people. I think they thought that would actually get them somewhere.

Had a discussion the other day with a guy about closing and some of the more agressive statements people are trained to use. Many of these closes are similar to what I posted here.

 

The difference is they aren't such direct attacks but are insulting none the less. The statement may make us feel good, like "man I'm strong" but the reality is it seldom results in a positive outcome with the customer from whom you are trying to get a sale.

 

Pressure exists in every transaction. What matters is it perceived as offensive or acceptable. We always believe the pressure we apply is acceptable but that's because we have only our perspective in mind.

 

Everybody says "speak the customers language" I say "think the customers thoughts before you speak"

Funny how the world turns Mike, I was ask to market the same product to my dealers and told him I reviewed the product four months ago with the Owner of the product and I just was not sold on it... and told him no thank you.

He said I can no longer deal with the owner and that he owned 100% of the company now.

I told him that I did not believe in the product and thanked him for thinking about me.

The next day I recieved the same email.lol

So you've seen the names of the other folks involve. I looked at their profiles and see much the same message. Not quite as direct with the insults though.

 

I can't believe anybody would think sending a message like that would be a good idea. I'm fairly sure if that's type of close is part of their training package they won't close many dealers either.

 

I know as a GM I wouldn't put up with it.

Another reason you shouldn't send emails and drink tequila at the same time. 

If this cat spent as much time evaluating and critiquing himself and his sales ability and less time being critical and abusive to potential clients and potential referrals he might actually close a deal himself.

Selling service means selling yourself; that translates into selling a relationship based on the customer seeing value in you, your product and your organization.

I like that competitive spirit in a sales person but, that lack of judgement has a 12-step program written all over it.

Though I don't see it here I did receive an email containing your first response to this posting.

 

I found it to elegant, eloquent and right on.

 

I talk to myself, verbalize the sentiments knowing full well no good would ever come of it if spoken to the person to whom it was directed. So talking to myself I get to say what I want without damaging myself in the process.

 

Negativity like exhibited in the post can do no good and advances no cause, whether it's in business or in personal relationships.
