Jim Ziegler Wants to know "Is it Time For the Retail Automotive Community to Rise Up and Give CarFax a TrueQuality Thumping?"

Enough is Enough!

Haven't you had it with all of these Data Pirates using our own customer information to defame us, lower our profits, alienate our customers... while at the same time they charge us through the nose to do us harm?

Among the worst of them in my opinion is CarFax. They even believe they have the right to price our cars and trades.... too low of course. While at the same time CarFax exploits negative stereotypes that we are crooks in every commercial the Little Car Fox Rats out the dishonest bumbling and inept idiot car sales person. They charge us to defame us.

read this article we just published in Wards Auto Magazine... "My latest article is out and it's hot.

Here are more than 250 Consumer Complaints and reviews about CarFax... look... http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/carfax_inacc.html

We have manufacturers supporting these people and requiring we do business with them. Let's get mobilized and scream at our factory representatives, reprint this article for your dealers, do press releases, and generally alert your State Dealer Associations and 20-groups.

If a consumer asks for the CarFax, tell them it's $39.00. Whoever told you it was free was lying.

I am available to perform 20-group and Dealer Association Keynote Speeches on this subject. As of right now, I am calling out the Tribe to get on this subject. JIM

Okay the election's over and the storms have passed. I asked everyone to give it break for the week here on CarFax Blog. NOW we're back and it's time to crank it up again. Good or bad, "Does CarFax damage your dealerships' reputation and create distrust against dealerships perpetuating common negative stereotypes? Does Carfax overcharge (highly overcharge) and do they block other legitimate companies that charge far less? Do you like CarFax and would you do business with them if they didn't try to intimidate you?

All lwgitimate questions and Your Input is appreciated. JIM

We're getting that viral momentum now... more than 4400 page views in three days... a lot of people reading this blog, not enough people posting yet. CarFax has got to be feeling the "Big Ouch" about now.  They deserve it too. Where do they get off thinking they can take dealers' money to insult us and defame us and slander us and price our business to consumers, while at the same time there are multiple instances of where consumers were royally screwed financially because they relied on a faulty inaccurate CarFax report?

I appreciate all of the calls and private emails I am receiving about CarFax and their perceived abuses of Car dealerships and Car people in general. Right now it's a little quiet because I want to wait until after the national elections and storm disasters are past before we really crank up the blogs. I have a 135,000 email database of opt-in subscribers and we will turn it up on CarFax soon. Your comments and opinions are welcome here, and i invite you to spread the word about these blogs and the perceived evils of CarFax.

Jeremy, haven't heard from Chip Perry as of yet. I suspect he'll give me a ring soon. He and i have been friends for years.

Yes, David, it's a Pay the Lawyers Class Action Lawsuit. They won, however.

This settlement from Keith Shetterly's links below does not even look like a slap on the wrist for the offense(s).

http://consumeradvocatelegalupdate.wordpress.com/2012/10/19/settlem... - (My opinion) this one was a class action attorney settlement vs. consumer protection as I don't believe $3 reimbursement even covers the cost of the misguided vehicle history reports.

No Jeremy, have not yet spoken to AutoTrader or Cars.com BUT I have a long standing relationship with Chip Perry at Autotrader. I'm sure I'll be hearing from him if AT is mentioned. JIM

The Carfax model is diabolical.  Even more so since "CarFax" is synonymous with "Vehicle History Report." Data Pirates of the Caribbean

Wow!  Jeremy I am so pleased you're here. Your insights have always been well researched and on a deeper intellectual level whereas I tend to come more from an emotional level. I have been eagerly anticipating your arrival on these blogs because I knew you'd bring added perspective.

Sincerely sorry when I hear about all of the pain in the northeast following this disaster. It's been a rough ride for all of us.

I just spoke to a Vice President of one of the manufacturers who endorse CarFax for their dealers. He told me he didn't realize all of the points we were bringing to the surface about CarFax. I won't divulge yet who that was but; I believed I awakened him to the real CarFax. When he looked at the consumer problems online as I guided him on the Internet I could hear his tone change on the phone as he began asking more pointed questions.

This is true evil... a "Free" CarFax offered on Ford CPO vehicles so that they can eliminate the exception that only Ford dealers currently have on AutoTrader and Cars.com. As it stands Ford dealers are able to show AutoCheck reports on AT & Cars.com. With this change, consumers will only see CarFax on these major sites.
