Can't keep good sales people without paying them. Factory people don't get it.

It is difficult to keep sales reps fired up when the factory mark up is only a $400 dollars or less on a new car. There are a lot of new cars with  little mark up. I have had sales reps tell me they walk around this kind of car or try to switch customers to other cars because of no money in it for them . Yet the factory people brag about the billions they                  The dealers usually have a minimum pay or a volume bonus to make up for this.  I think someone has to get to the big boys… Continue

How much time should you take to sell a car?

From the meet and greet I think it should take at least an hour selling a car before you even think of working a deal.            How long does it take to do a meet and greet?                                                                                                              How long does it take to do a proper walk around?                                                                                                        How long does it take to qualify a customer?                … Continue

Do you think fast talking or fine print advertising works?

Just had a advertising guy tell me it's our job to get them in . It's your job to sell them. Just here a radio add  that said $69 a month. At the end the words were so fast you could barely understand. It said $3500 down and a was a lease payment  A news paper had a similar add and at the very bottom some really fine print . It stated $3000 down and a 72 month payment to qualified buyers plus taxes tags and so on.                                                                             …

Should you mention GOD in your morning meetings or training classes?

I work with a dealer that has a prayer request in the middle of the show room every morning. The GM says we would have nothing if it wasn't for GOD and we thank him every day. Another dealer I work with gives 33% of his profits away to the needy. With respect to all the different religions, is this a good idea to talk about GOD in a training class or morning meetings?

As a manager never let sales reps control your pay check.

If a salesman doesn't T.O. , short cuts the steps of a sale , has no appointments, and doesn't do Birthday cards, they control your pay check. So what do you do next when you want to change?                                                                First make a decision that this is going to change and it is up to you. Get the owner or GM to back you before you start or it is an up hill battle for sure. Have a meeting to get everyone on the same page. Use some kind of a desk log that has… Continue

Where Did All the Fun Go in the Auto Business?

As a sales rep, our day started with a quick twenty minute meeting at 9 am sharp. If you were late you missed the meeting and had a talk with the manager later.

The F&I manager started off by thanking everyone for a good job and doing all the paper work correctly. If he needed any thing he would say it and we would do it. This took about two minutes.

The used car manager was next. He told us we are doing great . He told us what was new and what was…

You don't have to have a lot of growing pains to be more successful.

Find a process that will make you better than the competition to start and stick with it. Know the difference between a requirement and just a request. In other words this must be done.                                                                                  If you did your best to train and help the person and it isn't working, eliminate the problem so everyone knows this is what is required to work here. Have everything [ the process] written down with no grey areas. Train and…
