Time to move on and do something about it.

This True car deal is no different than the guy down the street advertising at cost or below. It's no different than when the internet came out and people were worried everyone will come in with the cost of a car. This simply is not the case. One thing will remain the same. The best trained sales force can overcome anything. What's your thoughts?

Those dealers still continue to tarnish the image of ALL dealers...This is what has GOT to stop!!!  I AM glad that you are responding to the sales people and managers like Stanley Esposito who said...Okay...It's here and how do we deal with it?  The car business will not be put on hold and car guys still need to go forward, selling cars and making some money!!!!  Merry Christmas!

Mr. King I have just one word to say about your comment. OUTSTANDING. Nancy I really don't worry about the guys advertising below cost. Those guys will have to spend more per car because of poor advertising and the customers will buy from the honest dealer. More important, go back again.                                                              I work with a dealer that delivered 196 units and only spent 22k on advertising. Why so low cost per unit? Simple no problems and all employees are treated with respect. This man has 12 locations.                               I disagree with the fact customers think all sales reps and dealers are liars. I do sales training at lot of stores who  do business the proper way. They pay there people well and the top sales reps go where the money is.             Keith, Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated.

Fran , You are sooooo right.  It is all about the basics!!  I would like this to be my moto:" We don't do anything exceptional, but we  do the Basics Exceptionally well!"

Bravo Nancy , Car people are the most hard working and resiliant people on earth!   Again ,  When you pay peanuts , you get monkeys !  ANd at Truecar pricing you can't afford to keep the professional sales staff you need to build the realtionships needed to drive your business.

Has TrueCar also signed up to be a body-parts broker, too?  Did they buy up all the spine from weak dealers who need 3rd-parties to namby-pamby customers about price with their TrueCar "ad car"--so they are just angry when they show up at the dealer??  GOOD GRIEF!  Have we forgotten how to sell without a crutch?  I thought the Internet was supposed to FIX that!! ARRRGGGHHHHHHHHHH!

GO SELL SOMETHING!!!  :)  I am darn sure that Fran can tell you how, and how.  Best sales training you can get, imho.  GO FRAN!  :)

<This rant brought to you by Keith, ME, and is my opinion only and could be wrong.  Am I?>

Mr. King I think  the difference in sales training is getting the sales reps to be a master at the basics. Before a sales rep greets a customer they should know they are going to out preform the guys down the street.40% of the sales are lost because half of steps of the sales being done or done very poor. .This is because of lack of knowledge { training ] or a lazy sales rep.  And good point. You do get what you pay for as far as hiring someone. Just make sure they have great referrals first. Thank you.

@ Nancy:  I'm with you!  100%.  TrueCar is not a traffic generator.  It's the new "ad car"...

Thank goodness someone unhappy with a dealership because of TrueCar can't just skip the CSI survey altogether and drop a review on Google, Yelp, MerchantCircle, DealerRater, etc. . . . or on to their Facebook page . . . I mean, just THINK what could happen if price-driven consumers had those tools!!

Back to your original post, Fran, I will touch upon what we discussed on the phone... The guy down the street who placed the deceptive ad on Friday night for 2K under invoice, and brought those customers into your lot with the ad in hand..."Can you give me this deal?"...and they demanded a Yes or No answer, really contributed to the negative perception of the auto industry.  We were then forced to overcome that challenge before presenting our product, allowing the prospective client to like and trust us,  and lost many in the process.  It really made us look like "liars" and worked in a negative fashion for the dealer body.  This is an electronic version of that scenario.... What frustrates me is after reading the many comments from consumers to TrueCar on their Customer Car site, they did not take accountability when responding to the "dealership scam accusations".  Again, the dealership was thrown under the bus!  So, just when price was becoming not the #1 factor when making a purchasing decision, we, the auto industry, make it the #1 factor again, via TrueCar aggressive advertising.  Car people are really good people and we need to rid ourselves of this derogatory perception by the consumer!!!  Who is with me on this????

When we are talking about the best training,  I don't think we are talking about wearing people out with training, I think we are talking about the basic!  This training and process is the resposibility of your dept managers and if you pay peanuts , you get monkeys!  That is exactly why only the weak need Truecar.  Its because somepeople don't pay their managers enough to be real managers and instead they operate from a "fear of loss" prespective and forget that the race is to the bank , Not the title offfice !  When ZAG first started it was a great program , Elite customers from USAA , and AM EX etc. Loved it !  Then they got greedy and opened it up the public, and positioned new car dealers as liars and cheats.  Hated it!  NOw we make more by matching True car than subscribing!
