A year from now
It is a great time to look back a few weeks. 7 weeks to be exact to January 1st. Did you make some New Years Resolutions? Have you reviewed them since you wrote them? 2/12th of the year is soon to be past. You can't get it back. Are you moving forward? I am excited for you because you still have time to meet all your goals for the year! some of you that read the title are probably saying there's more than one right way, and that's true, but I'm a big believer that everything we do should first have the consumer in mind. That said, making mobile videos and using them for follow up on YouTube may not be the best thing for your consumer.
why not you ask? Let me ask you this do you think that a person likes having a video with their first and last name publicly shared with the universe?
I know personally, I would…

The Transparency Advantage
Car shoppers today have access to all kinds of online data when making a purchase decision: car reviews, price information, inventory availability, dealership reviews, you name it. With a few clicks (likely from their smart phone), they get the answers they need, possibly while standing right in front of you in your store. Talk about consumer empowerment.
The thing is, all this ready-access to information can also be hugely empowering for dealers. Dealerships that adapt their…

Best Practices in Fixed Operations—Implementing Call Monitoring
Best Practices in Fixed Operations—Implementing Call Monitoring
The Profits of Service
In today’s competitive marketplace many dealerships will rise and fall on the revenue generated by the Fixed Operations division. Additionally, the future success of the Sales side is directly related to the service experience your callers receive. About two out of every three callers reaching your dealership will ask to speak with someone in Service or Parts. Unfortunately, 20…

Mobile Marketing Strategy — Should Apps Be Considered?
Over 50% of your customers are smartphone users. This makes mobile a topic worth the attention of every dealer. Just about every expert will agree that all businesses must have a strong Mobile Marketing strategy. Such a strategy involves making nominal changes to your marketing plan to include mobile as a method to reach out to new customers and keep in touch with existing ones.

Auto Sales Training: Communicate with Impact
Sales letters are important tools for interactive marketing, lead generation and nurturing sales opportunities. In the age of digital marketing, usually one of the earliest experiences a potential consumer will have with an organization is some impersonal written for the masses word format.
Selling is like dating. Imagine you are on a first date; would…

In my last post about making the internet department good for gross, not just volume I talked about having the right people in the Internet Sales department. The most important part of that was this (you will see this again too!)...
ContinueThe internet salesperson should be an experienced salesperson, who can quickly and easily function as the salesperson, finance manager, and sales manager. They need to be able to quickly answer any question, and overcome objections with…

Mobile Marketing Strategy
Getting Started: App Downloads
Let’s start at the beginning. Dealers cannot have the “If we build it, they will come” mentality when it comes to having a dealership branded mobile app. The first thing to consider when planning your mobile marketing strategy is acquiring downloads. This is extremely important as the success of your mobile app implementation hinges on this critical step.
Companies worldwide are investing mega-cash to ensure…

I'm sure pretty much everyone will agree that the hardest part of running any department, is having the right people. Whether you're in car sales or managing a McDonalds or a bowling alley, having the right people working for you is the most important part of the three P's (Product, People, Process).
With Internet sales I've seen its all to often the make or break difference. The biggest mistake that can be made is having the wrong person responding to leads. The most common…

What goes in your mind..
If our natural state is joy why are there so many unhappy people out there? We can talk about state of mind all we want, the bottom line is we are what goes into our mind. What the heck does that mean? It means if your watching the news what kind of information are you sending to your brain. What do you expect to hear on the news? Everytime I listen it seems to be negative. What goes in your mind comes out your mouth. First thing in the morning, last thing at night you take in the negative…

As if the CFPB/DOJ $98 million penalty against Ally Bank in December wasn’t enough, more regulators are starting off 2014 with a bang. You have all seen or heard Albert Einstein’s definition of insanity – doing the same think over and over again and expecting different results. And yet, day after day, in dealerships large and small, owners and sales managers trot out the same tired old sales process, watch the same decades-old videos and hire the same trainers and consultants and expect…

I hate internet sales!
My internet department s_ _ks!
Internet is all give-aways!
Internet salesmen are order-takers, not salesmen!

Most of us grew up in the industry where PUVR (or Per Used Vehicle Retail) was the key metric we were looking for to determine how successful we were on each vehicle we sold. As we all know, things have definitely changed since the Internet has become the primary way our customers begin their search for a used car.
For the last two years, I have had the privilege of teaching and coaching our NCM dealer-clients’ managers at the NCM…
