Flushing Your Olympic Marketing Down the Drain of Bad Processes

The OEMs and the vendor/consultant marketplace are more and more teaching dealers all about modern marketing, and I get why:  Generating good traffic these days requires lots more than a newspaper, radio, or TV ad.  We’re all being shopped on the Internet by customers, and we need to be there, and be there strong, in order to win sales.

And, so, if we train and execute…

The Next Best Thing Won’t Fix Your Old Wrong Thing

Allowing bad processes and paying for more marketing is much like another American Classic:  How many homes do you know where there’s a nice automobile sitting in damaging sun and weather in the driveway while $300 worth of junk sits protected in the messy garage?  We do the same thing as dealers; buying new shiny things for our marketing and letting them sit outside our…

Adding QR codes to your Photos for 3rd party sites

I started doing Internet sales in 1997 and since then I have always tried to

stay ahead of the next dealership, doing things that no other dealer is doing.

So one of my biggest challenge that I never got resolved, until now, was to find

a way to include a hyper link into my listings on Autotrader and Cars.com to

direct customers back to my site or any where else I would like for them to go.

To be up front, I am a vAuto rep for the store Moberly Motors in Moberly MO,… Continue

Leadership In Our Industry

You know for last few months I have been hearing a lot about leadership in our industry, about education and how there needs to be more of both, I ABSOLUTELY AGREE!

I met up with Bill Playford at SWSXi (South By Southwest Interactive) for those not familiar with the acronym. We talked about this very thing. I found myself getting very excited…

"Having NO reputation online is worse than having a bad one"

I am sitting here this morning doing some final research and putting some finishing touches on the outline for my upcoming webinar on “Why pay for Reputation Management when you can get it Free” and it occurs to me I did the very thing I am railing against in the seminar… pigeonholed “Reputation Management” as monitoring the web for bad things people say about your dealership in the title and description on the sign up page for the…

A TALE OF THREE SALESPEOPLE

This is a true story told to me in 1996 BC (Before Computers) by my friend and sales trainer extraordinaire Diana Ball Cooksey. (http://www.dbcooksey.com/)

Diana was a busy working professional and single parent with little time for projects outside her day-to-day work and home responsibilities.  But she needed to buy some health insurance.  So she left voice messages after hours (this is the days before PCs, remember) with three agencies,…

Microsite & Landing Page Insanity

This NADA was riddled with the Microsite buzz or at least where I was. I heard more than a few sessions on this topic and it amazes me sometimes that these “Experts” who talk about microsites and conversion still think that if you just throw a Microsite out there it will instantly get traffic or if you build a lot of them somehow visitors will just trip into them.

Just quit it…Please!

Don't ruin a good thing before it ever gets started with these crazy…

A Lesson From Groupon

Who are we putting in charge of our business?

As I watched this video of Groupon’s CEO Andrew Mason apologizing for a business in Japan that couldn’t handle the orders that Groupon generated for them over New Years I couldn’t stop thinking; Video Click Here

“Here is a vendor that set a marketing strategy in place for a business using price positioning…

Automotive News Microsites And Acton Toyota, Done Right and Done Wrong

Read an article yesterday in Automotive News about Microsites and Acton Toyota "1 Web site? Why stop there?" . I was absolutely thrilled to see that Post-Click-Marketing is finally getting some long overdue credit in the space and from Automotive News to boot.

However Acton hasn’t even scratched the surface with Microsites and Post-Click-Marketing and…

You Can Do This, and Start Today!

There is no longer any doubt about the need for a digital presence.  If you want to improve your market share here are a few things a dealer can do today.

Require each department head to write a blog once a month.  (This should include the GM or Dealer.)

Require each employee that interacts with the public to maintain a page on some social media platform.

Make sure the Dealership maintains a Facebook page and a twitter page.  (updates are important.)

Each…

New Year Goals, Step One!

I posted that one of my goals was to help 12 dealers increase their marketshare and decrease their marketing expences.  I am happy to say that one dealer so far is well on their way towards market share improvement.

We developed an agressive campaign.  One that includes facebook, twitter, first page on Google and other search engines.  There are key-word ads as well as intuitive placement on hundreds of popular web sites.  We will also send the information on this dealer out through…

Why Is Conversion More Important Than Lot Traffic?

“The only thing you’ll will need is crowd control”

That was the tag line I used when I first started “Outside The Box Marketing” in 1997, that business was a direct mail marketing company for event sales, you know these sales we’ve all done them:…

Sales Managers?

Back in the day when a sales person brought an incomplete offer to the desk, I would just get up, and sit down with the prospect and finish getting the complete offer. Teaching and Training at the same time.

When confronted with a difficult deal, instead of going back and forth, again I would sit with the prospect and work on closing the deal.

In addition to setting records, this method of management caused my sales people to be very loyal. When I retired from…
