R U a Noun or Verb Christian?

What is your faith like...is it a noun, a thing, or a verb, something in action to which others might point and remark there is something "different" about you.

This is not an academic exercise. There is nothing that Jesus preached or His apostles wrote about faith and following Christ that is not verb-oriented. Yes, faith itself is a noun, but as James says, faith without works is dead. Please do not read this to mean works = salvation. Scripture is very clear that salvation is by faith alone.

So, what do we mean by being a Verb Christian? Is it attending church or tithing or donating time and money to charity...or taking care of an elder relative? These are all good things we all should do, if presented with the opportunity. Church attendance by itself simply says the individual attends church -- it reveals nothing about their changed heart, their obedience to Christ's commands or their submission of their ego/themselves/stuff/TV/sport/business to God and to others (especially their spouse).

It is what He does, Joe.  He makes our day.  Now go and make the day for others!

Joe: "It's all about love and service, baby!"  We have Palm Sunday, then Holy Week, when we'll fall to our knees in tears of both sadness and joy as He took the cross for our salvation; then be humbly grateful that His Resurrection assured ours.  How awesome is our God!  We each are given our unique crosses to bear in life, yet it is in celebrating them, as He so celebrated His cross for us, that we come to know Him, not just believe in Him.  I celebrate you Joe for being a man of God and taking responsibility for the souls you are responsible for bringing Home (with a capital "H", as in Heaven)!  God love you!

A Blessed Mother Teresa quote may be helpful here: "I know God doesn't give me more than I can handle, I just wish He didn't love me so much!"  Celebrate your son!  Celebrate your motherhood!  Celebrate your holy marriage! Celebrate God's love!  And, when you finish, keep celebrating life every day!  There are far too many today celebrating evil and sin, and you give people like me cause to shout out in celebration of good in life today and I thank you!  Today, I choose to celebrate Donna Harris, for you truly are God's girl!

A man at my small group asked, "How do we handle extreme fear and anxiety when it seems to want to overwhelm us?" We agreed that building up defenses against these attacks before they hit us is smart, meaning daily scripture reading and memorization, prayer and fellowship with other men who can come along side when anxiety wants to overwhelm. The following Scripture contain the power of God to dispell anxiety and fear -- worth putting on 3 by 5 cards and memorizing for when you need them:

1. Phillipians 4: 6-7

2. Psalm 94: 18-19

3. Psalm 37: 23-24

4. Jeremiah 33:3

5. Proverbs 12:25

6. 2 Timothy 1:7

Thanks Tom. I printed that one and am keeping it in my pocket for a reminder this evening, tomorrow and everyday. I have 3 that I'm responsible for and the timing for your post was perfect, since I have just recently been trying to be more of a spiritual leader in my home. Thanks again!

Tom, thanks for the encouragement. In the back of my mind I ask myself why I am not more involved teaching again in my church. But I reach out to people whenever God provides the opportunity--on business trips, school field trips. But I absolutely must focus on shepherding my son. He's a serious Christian, knows how to hear from the Lord and has devotions every night on his own without prompting. But I know his weakness is popularity and he's getting to an age where he can be strongly influenced by peer pressure.

Donna:  I pray God so blesses you everyone recognizes Him in you!  May I just share with you profound words I recently heard from a very holy woman who is raising her beautiful five children (oldest is 14) after infidelity by their father split the family: "I am responsible for their souls."  I had never heard anyone make this exact claim before, and it hit me upside the head like a 2X4.  No matter what, we are responsible for souls. We're called to be Christ-like examples, as you are.  In your own words, you are taking full responsibility for the soul of your son.  St. Paul calls all of us to be saints, and you are a living example! Perhaps each of us need to boldly proclaim to all we love by making this same bold and true statement: "I am responsible for your soul."  Jesus taught that there are 2 great commandments; to love God with all our hearts and to love our neighbors as ourselves.  God is in us and we are in God.  God is love; and love is demanding!  We, each and everyone of us, are responsible for the souls of others.  Think about it!
