R U a Noun or Verb Christian?

What is your faith like...is it a noun, a thing, or a verb, something in action to which others might point and remark there is something "different" about you.

This is not an academic exercise. There is nothing that Jesus preached or His apostles wrote about faith and following Christ that is not verb-oriented. Yes, faith itself is a noun, but as James says, faith without works is dead. Please do not read this to mean works = salvation. Scripture is very clear that salvation is by faith alone.

So, what do we mean by being a Verb Christian? Is it attending church or tithing or donating time and money to charity...or taking care of an elder relative? These are all good things we all should do, if presented with the opportunity. Church attendance by itself simply says the individual attends church -- it reveals nothing about their changed heart, their obedience to Christ's commands or their submission of their ego/themselves/stuff/TV/sport/business to God and to others (especially their spouse).

"If we would endeavor, like men of courage,to stand in the battle, surely we would feel the favorable assistance of God from Heaven. For he who giveth us occasion to fight,to the end we may get the victory,is ready to succor those that fight manfully, and do trust in His grace" --Thomas Kempis

Merry Christmas!  Be sure to take time to "Be Still and know" during this wonderful celebration, my biggest challenge.  God Bless us everyone!

Understood Mike, and thanks for clarification. Yes, we can get caught up in christiany things and forget that Jesus is at the center of everything...Merry Christmas!

Vivid story, Mike. Keeping the Sabbath or really any day to recharge in the Lord is worth the discipline. A challenge? Yes,with all the world distractions. But we find we become relaxed, spend more time studying Scripture, meditating or otherwise in fellowship with each other. And how true that stuff gets in the way. What the Lord was telling you is stuff had become your god, an idol. This we must always be watchful for...as much in this world can become an idol (even ourselves). Thanks for taking the time and being vulnerable to comment, Mike.

Hey Folks. Here is 5-minute video you may enjoy.. At noon on Nov13, 2010 these unsuspecting shoppers got a surprise while enjoying their lunch. I am sharing it here in the group for Christian professionals because, well, I think you will appreciate it.

If your Thanksgiving involves family that are not believers, what is the nature of your discussions? Do you pray to the Lord at your meal...or defer to the others' worldliness? Is there alcohol involved in such a way that some degree of drunkenness occurs? How do you respond to being in this sort of situation? How difficult will it be for you to share your faith? Ever have the experience of sharing the truth with family and watching them in response turn into a wolf in their response to you -- almost like a movie transformation? Spooky. Would be interested to hear your thoughts, experiences. God bless you and your family this Thanksgiving.

Watched a "Peanuts" Thanksgiving story on TV the other night and Charlie Brown's narration reminded me of the courage, sacrifice and hope the Pilgrims had who left Europe for a new start in the New World. It reminds me that whatever we have -- little or a lot -- to be grateful for it all. Taking inventory of what we are grateful for, no matter what condition time finds us today, is a great way to get right-sided with a great attitude for the holidays ahead. May God bless you and your family
